Palm/Passion Sunday @ Pushpashrama
On April 9, 2017, the Carmelites along with the faithful of the
vicinity celebrated the Palm Sunday at Infant Jesus Shrine, Pushpashrama,
Mysuru. Palm Sunday is the day where we commemorate the triumphal entry
of Jesus into Jerusalem, a week before His resurrection. As Jesus
entered the holy city, He neared the culmination of a long journey
toward Golgotha and there he offers his life for the salvation of the
humanity. Palm Sunday marked the start of what is often called “Passion
Week,” the final seven days of Jesus’ earthly ministry. Palm Sunday was
the “beginning of the end” of Jesus’ work on earth.
The celebration commenced at 8-00 am with the blessing of the palm
branches at the entrance of Pushpashrama, which was followed by the
solemn Eucharistic celebration presided over by Fr Alfred Menezes,
Rector along with the community friars. Fr Alfred in his homily
highlighted three important roles of Jesus as King, Messiah and the Lamb
of God and gave a clarion call to all the faithful to prepare ourselves
to encounter the Lord in this Holy Week. May this Holy week enable us to
come closer to Jesus and experience his unconditional love and
forgiveness in our lives.
