The golden friar: Fr. Cyril Menezes
11th of February,2018 will remain a
memorable day for the Karnataka-Goa Province
of Discalced Carmelites, as Fr. Cyril
Menezes completed 50 years in the garden of
Carmel. There was a solemn Eucharistic
celebration at the Infant Jesus presided
over by Fr. Cyril, along with Carmelite
friars from all around the province and a
few diocesan priests. In his homily, Fr.
Alfred Menezes explained the significance of
the jubilee in the life of the religious.
The meaningful liturgy and the
soul-uplifting choir was animated by the
theology brothers.
A short felicitation programme was organized
in the courtyard of the monastery. After a
prayer song by the theology brothers, the
cake was cut. Fr. Archibald Gonsalves raised
the toast and highligted some unique facets
of the life of the jubilarian, who was then
honoured by the Provincial and his
councillors with a Mysore peta, shawl and
fruits. Fr. Anthony Kanapilly the batchmate
of Fr. Cyril, who belongs to the Manjummel
province and was present on the occasion was
also felicitated. From the part of the
family his sister, Mrs. Janet shared how Fr.
Cyril has been a mentor and guide to all of
them. His nephew and niece rendered a
wishing song composed specially for the
occasion. Towards the end, the Provincial,
Fr. Charles Serrao, acknowledge the
magnanimous role played by Fr Cyril in the
Province, as vocation promoter, formator,
local superior and provincial councillor,
especially in the initial years. 50 golden
balloons were released in the air and at
last Fr. Cyril expressed his sentiments of
gratitude. The whole programme was compered
