Ryshivana Celebrates Our Lady of Mount Carmel
and Launches Spiritual Renewal Course
On July 16, 2024, Ryshivana, the Institute of
Indian Christian Spirituality located in
Mangalore, Karnataka, hosted a vibrant
celebration in honour of the Feast of Our Lady
of Mount Carmel. The occasion was marked by the
inauguration of the Spiritual Renewal Course for
the academic year 2024-2025.
The Eucharistic celebration, presided over by
Rev. Fr. Prakash D’Cunha, Provincial Councillor,
brought together community friars and friars
from the Mangalore region. The faithful gathered
to express their devotion to Our Lady of Mount
Carmel, seeking her intercession and guidance.
The feast witnessed a diverse congregation,
including neighbouring religious sisters,
participants enrolled in the upcoming
eight-month diploma course in spirituality at
Ryshivana, members of the Secular Order of
Discalced Carmelites (OCDS), and friends and
well-wishers of Ryshivana.
During the homily, Fr. Prakash emphasized the
significance of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and
encouraged everyone to emulate her devotion and
commitment to following the Lord. He also
explained the importance of wearing the brown
scapular—a symbol of Mary’s protection and
intercession.
The inauguration of the Spiritual Renewal Course
coincided with the celebration. This course aims
to deepen participants’ spiritual lives, foster
personal growth, and provide practical tools for
living out their faith authentically.
Following the spiritual celebration, a joyful
festive dinner was served to all attendees,
providing an opportunity for fellowship and
camaraderie among the Ryshivana community.
Thus the celebration of Our Lady of Mount Carmel
was a moment of grace, uniting people from
diverse backgrounds to honour Mary and embark on
a journey of spiritual renewal.
