The Shepherd of Mysore Diocese Visits the
Cloistered Carmel, Mysore
On October 15, 2025, the Solemnity of St. Teresa of Avila, the
Cloistered Carmel in Mysore had the joy of welcoming the new Bishop
of Mysore Diocese, Most Rev. Francis Serrao, SJ. The Bishop graced
the community by celebrating the festal Mass for the sisters,
marking the occasion with his pastoral presence and heartfelt
prayers.
The Mass commenced at 6:30 p.m. and was enriched by a meaningful
homily in which Bishop Serrao reflected on the life, teachings, and
profound spirituality of St. Teresa of Avila. His words offered
inspiration and encouragement to the sisters, highlighting the
enduring relevance of St. Teresa’s example of prayer, contemplation,
and total dedication to God. The Secretary of the Bishop
concelebrated the Mass, further emphasizing the importance of the
occasion.
Prior to the Mass, Bishop Serrao was warmly felicitated on behalf of
the Cloistered Carmel by Fr. Archibald Gonsalves and Sr. Carmin
Maria, External Sister, expressing the community’s gratitude for his
presence and blessings.
Following the liturgical celebration, the Bishop spent time with the
sisters in the parlour, sharing a breakfast and engaging in
fraternal conversation. During this meeting, he expressed his
heartfelt appreciation for the sisters’ constant prayers and
encouraged them to continue interceding for the Diocese. He also
mentioned that in the days to come, he hoped to return to celebrate
Mass and spend a few more moments with the nuns.
Bishop Serrao’s visit was truly paternal and grace-filled, leaving a
lasting impression on the sisters. His presence not only
strengthened the bonds between the Diocese and the Cloistered Carmel
but also enriched the spiritual life of the community, inspiring
them to deepen their prayerful witness in the service of the Church.
