A Decade of Grace and Growth: Decennial
Celebration of the Little Flower Monastery and the Feast of St.
Teresa of Avila
The Little Flower Monastery at Carmel Hill, Deroche, Canada joyfully
marked its 10th anniversary in conjunction with the Feast of St.
Teresa of Avila on October 15, 2025. The celebration began with a
solemn Eucharistic celebration at 10:15 a.m., presided over by Fr.
Vincent D’Souza, who served as the principal celebrant.
In his words of welcome, Fr. Vincent warmly greeted the congregation
and reflected on the spiritual and historical significance of the
day. The celebration was graced by members of the OCDS communities
from two Vancouver locations, Carmel Friends, and 52 high school
students accompanied by their teachers.
During the introduction, Fr. Vincent offered prayers of remembrance
and gratitude for all who have contributed to the growth of the
monastery. He made special mention of Helen Tiampo, Fr. Rudolf
Valerian D’Souza, and the priests who have served at Carmel Hill
over the years — Frs. Alwyn Sequeira, Alex Braganza, Melwin Pinto,
Steny Mascarenhas, Rajesh Madtha, Frank Sharma, and Stephen Lobo. He
also shared the intention and significance of the Holy Mass,
invoking God’s continued blessings upon the monastery and its
mission.
The homily, delivered by Fr. Mario Fernandes, centered on the
universal call to holiness. Drawing inspiration from the writings of
St. Teresa of Avila, particularly The Way of Perfection and The
Interior Castle, he invited the faithful to seek deeper union with
God through prayer and self-knowledge.
Following the Mass, all gathered for a fellowship potluck with the
OCDS members, house staff, and Carmel Friends. The joyful gathering
was a beautiful expression of gratitude, communion, and shared
faith, marking not only a milestone of years but also of grace and
growth in the Carmelite mission at Carmel Hill.
