From Vision to Creation: Carmel Creators Workshop Ignites Talents
Under the initiative of Dhyanavana Publications, the Carmel Creators
Workshop was successfully conducted from August 11th to 14th at
Bikarnakatte for Carmelite priests, with the aim of empowering them in
the field of media and digital communication. The four-day programme
focused on creativity, technical skills, and the mission-oriented use of
modern media tools.
The workshop was inaugurated on August 11th at 9:00 am. Present on the
occasion were Fr. Alphonse Britto, Councillor in charge of Media, Stany
Bela, renowned writer, filmmaker, and content creator, Fr. Melvin
D’Cunha, Superior of St. Joseph’s Monastery; and Fr. Ivan D’Souza,
Director of Dhyanavana Publications. Fr. Jocy D’Souza warmly welcomed
the dignitaries, presenting each with a shawl and a bouquet of flowers.
The unique inauguration took place by holding an Instagram frame and the
dignitaries together declaring the workshop’s fivefold vision: Create,
Proclaim, Inspire, Engage, and Evangelise. In his keynote address, Fr.
Ivan D’Souza stressed the importance of religious entering the media
ministry. Fr. Alphonse Britto added that media is one of the most
effective means to proclaim the Gospel, and therefore demands proper
training. Fr. Melvin D’Cunha, in his words of encouragement, wished the
participants well and officially launched the programme with the
inspiring declaration: “Lights, Camera, and Let the mission begin!”
The first day featured an engaging session by Stany Bela, who shared his
expertise in social media strategies, video production techniques, and
digital storytelling. With practical examples, he guided participants on
crafting messages that resonate with online audiences and on using
creativity as a tool for evangelisation. The second day was led by Mr.
Alwyn Sequeira, an experienced cinematographer. His session covered
photography essentials, including exposure settings, framing, and
composition, followed by videography techniques and an introduction to
Canva for quick and effective content design. The third day was
dedicated to practical sessions. Participants were divided into groups
and assigned themes to create short video reels. This allowed them to
apply the skills they had learned in the previous days, from shooting
and editing to crafting impactful messages for digital platforms.
On the final day, Provincial Fr. Silvestre Dsouza addressed the
participants via WhatsApp video call, assuring his full support for the
media ministry and appreciating the initiative. Fr. Jocy Dsouza then
conducted an insightful session on hooks, social media algorithms,
camera shots, and colour theory, equipping the participants to make
their media content more engaging and impactful.
A short evaluation of the workshop was conducted, with participants
sharing their feedback and appreciation for the sessions. To ensure
continued collaboration, a Carmel Creators Committee was formed, and Fr.
Prithesh Crasta was appointed as the coordinator of the media ministry.
The workshop concluded with Fr. Alphonse Britto expressing heartfelt
thanks to all resource persons, organisers, and participants, assuring
them of his unwavering support in their media initiatives.
