Feast of St. Mary of Jesus Crucified Celebrated with Devotion
On Wednesday, the 27th, a solemn celebration was held in honour of St.
Mary of Jesus Crucified at the Sacred Heart Cloistered Carmel Monastery,
Mangalore.
The Holy Hour began at 4:15 p.m., conducted by Rev. Fr. Joseph Cyril
D’Souza OCD, who led the congregation in prayer before the Blessed
Sacrament. The choir was beautifully led by Br. Loy Crasta, a Carmelite
brother.
At 5:30 p.m., Rev. Fr Rajesh Rosario, the Rector of Jeppu Seminary,
together with the Carmelite Fathers and the Jesuits, concelebrated the
Eucharistic High Mass. The Rector delivered a homily on prayer and love,
highlighting the essence of contemplation and meditation.
The liturgy was organized by the OCDS members of the Sacred Heart
Monastery (English group) under the guidance of Fr. Deep Fernandes OCD.
Despite the rain, a large number of faithful participated. At the end of
the celebration, prayer cards of St. Mariam were distributed.
Following the Mass, a fellowship gathering was held. The clergy and
faithful were warmly welcomed by the Carmelite Sisters in the parlour.
The OCDS members received a picture and a book on the life of St. Mary
of Jesus Crucified, and refreshments were served.
In deep devotion, the faithful also spent time in prayer at her shrine,
beautifully decorated at the convent entrance in her honour. Relics of
the Saint were distributed to the devotees.
