60th Birthday celebration of Fr Rudolf Valerian

The “Shasti poorthi” 60th birthday of Fr Rudolf
V. D’Souza’s OCD was celebrated on 27th of July,
2020 at Carmel Hill Monastery, B.C. Even though
the public gatherings of huge number were
prohibited according to the government
guidelines due to COVID 19 effect, yet the
celebration went forth with the following of
proper protocols, but it was limited to the
friars of the neighbouring communities alone.
The celebration began with the Thanks giving
Eucharist presided over by the Birthday Boy, Fr.
Rudy and Fr. Vijay Martin OCD, preached a
meaningful homily emphasizing the dedication,
commitment, generosity and pastoral zeal of Fr
Rudolf to the Lord’s Kingdom.
After which, a short felicitation programme was
arranged in the Monastery. Fr. Alex Braganza,
the Superior welcomed the gathering. The
birthday boy cut the cake and opened the bottle
of champagne. Fr Mario Fernandes raised the
toast and wished all blessings and success to Fr
Rudy.
There was a huge surprised to Fr Rudy awaited,
prepared by Fr Rajesh Madtha, as a tribute to
his contribution towards the Canadian region and
to the province. A Well-made video of collection
of birthday wishes from his Mom, siblings,
nieces and nephews, relatives, family and
friends and different Carmelite priests from
different part of the world. It was so touching
nostalgic emotional experience.
Fr John Alex Pinto presented the Souvenir
containing the collection of written messages of
different people including priest, family and
friends and the read the poem written by Fr Paul
Dsouza. Fr Alex Braganza presented the papal
blessing and Fr Steny Mascarenhas read the
Provincials message.
At the end, Fr Rudolf in his speech thanked God
for his gift of life and gift of priesthood to
serve in God’s vineyard and for all spiritual
and moral support of all family members and
Carmelite fairs, friends. Fr John Alex Pinto
planned and organised the entire programme
thanked all the friars who worked to make this
programme a great celebration. Fr Ivan Sanctis
prayed the grace for the sumptuous monastic
dinner prepared by Fr Alex, Rajesh and Steny.
The whole programme was compered by Fr Jaison
Tellis.
Indeed, it was actual celebration of the
Carmelite fraternity and brotherhood during this
social distanced, isolated time. This
celebration brought joy on face of all the
friars present.
