Mount Carmel Feast @ Carmel Home, Belur
The Carmel Home in Belur celebrated Our Lady of
Mt Carmel's solemnity with great devotion and
zeal. For the first time, the CRI of the
Chikmagalur diocese was invited to celebrate the
feast. About 75 of them consented to the
invitation. The mass commenced at 11 a.m.
presided over by Fr. Sunil Rodrigues, Superior
of Carmel Ashram, Shivamogga, and 11 other
concelebrants. In his sermon, he spoke about the
Order's history as well as the significance of
the scapular and prayer life.
Fr. Prasanna Kumar, Superior gave an overview of
the Carmelites' 41-year presence in Belur,
mentioning the then-Provincial and the Frist
community friars such Frs. Gracian Lobo, Peter
Dsa, Faustine Crasta, and Thomas Baretto, as
well as the mission at Joseph Nagar. Throughout
the years, several animators and members have
served as confessors and spiritual directors to
various religious sisters, assisting in parishes
throughout the diocese. Fr. Cyril Menezes
launched a boarding house for 50 boys and a
school in 2013. It has now grown to serve 965
pupils and has a very strong reputation in Belur
Taluka.
The Carmel Home community currently consists of
four priests: Frs. Prasanna Kumar, Elias D'Souza,
Joseph Pinto, and Prakash Tauro. They all share
the goal of working together for the positive
development of the school, the parish, and the
Tholalu substation. Indeed, it is God's
Providence that the community is called to serve
the local church and society. The entire
community is grateful to God, the province, and
everyone with whom they have had contact. May
the Lord bless everyone through the maternal
intercession of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
There was a monastic lunch following the solemn
Eucharist. The event truly optimized fraternal
love and happiness.
