NEW BEGINNING @ CARMEL HILL
“Becoming a priest or a man or woman religious is not
primarily our own decision. Rather it is the response to a
call and to a call of love.” – Pope Francis
In the voyage of love, captained by the Lord, the last sail
that is unfurled in the long formation of priesthood is the
precious four years of Theological Studies. Despite the
onslaughts of the pandemic, with firm trust in patronage of
St. Joseph and Our Lady of Mount Carmel, St. Joseph’s
Monastery, Carmel Hill, Mangaluru, officially inaugurated
the academic year 2021 – 2022. The year was officiated at 7
pm through the Eucharistic celebration presided over by Fr.
Charles Serrao, the Prior of the community, concelebrated by
Fr. Lancy Lewis – the Master of Students, Fr. Barnabas and
other priests of the community. By the lighting of the lamp,
the community sought the assistance of the ‘Light of the
World’ to lead us in faith, wisdom and discretion throughout
the year. Fr. Charles in his homily centred on the
‘Beatitudes’ addressed the students to live a life of
conviction based on the principles of discipline, academic
excellence, integrity and responsibility.
The community rejoices in having 7 brothers in the first
year, 5 in the second and third year and 3 in their final
year that makes up a total of 20 theology students. The Lord
has indeed blessed our province with vocations which will be
fructified by theological studies. The mass concluded with
the resonance of solemn ‘Salve Regina’ after which the
friars joined for a fraternal meal!
