Foundation day of St.
Joseph's Church, Actonville
65th foundation day of the parish was
celebrated at St. Joseph's Church, Actonville,
South Africa on Sunday 1st of May. Foundation
for this church was laid on 1st May 1951. In the
course of time this foundation has witnessed
many changes and alterations. The present
existing Church was built by Fr. Joachim
Rodrigues. The celebration began with the
procession with the statue of St. Joseph. Fr.
John D Souza, the guest priest from Cape Town
carried the statue in procession. During the
Mass Fr. Arvin Tauro preached a homily on unity.
He also urged the youngsters to respect the hard
work of the elders and to live the spirituality
handed on to us by our ancestors. After the
homily the newly elected leaders of Parish
Pastoral Council took the pledges. During the
prayers of the faithful, people brought
different symbols signifying the unity of the
parish, since our parish has two communities and
people from different countries. At the end of
the Mass senior most persons of the parish cut
the cake .Four people were honored for their
dedicated and committed service to the parish
and the society. After the Mass food was served
for all and the day continued with variety of
entertainment. The attraction of the day was the
Indian dance by a South African Indian
youngster.
