A new house of Carmelites in Udupi Diocese
We have a new house in the Diocese of Udupi. The inauguration was
held on the 6th of November 2023. Rev. Fr. Silvestre D’Souza the
Provincial Superior of the Carmelites of Karnataka-Goa Province cut
the ribbon and Most Rev. Gerald Isaac Lobo blessed the house in the
presence of the Parish Priest of Kalmady, Rev. Fr Baptist Menezes,
the Provincial Councillors, Friars from Koteshwar community and
representatives from Mangalore and Madanthyar communities. The
Bishop presided over the Eucharist, during which he blessed the
altar, the cross and the tabernacle and handed over the keys to Fr.
Alwyn Sequeira the priest in-charge of this house. While thanking
the Bishop Fr. Silvestre said, ‘Every Carmelite house in a Diocese
is a house of prayer. St Teresa rejoiced each time the Blessed
Sacrament was installed in a new foundation, which for her was the
defining moment.” He thanked the Bishop for his guidance and
constant support. The engineer Mr Allan D’Souza, contractor Mr.
Maxim Correa and electric contractor Mr Prakash Andrade were
felicitated. The Bishop recalled the hurdles we faced during the
construction of the house, while appreciating the service of our
friars in the Diocese. Fr Prakash D’Cunha the Councilor in-charge of
temporalities oversaw the entire project and worked tirelessly to
complete the project in time. Frs. Archibald Gonsalves and William
Miranda, the pioneers to purchase this land and do the initial
planning were remembered and thanked for their foresight. For the
present, Fr. Alwyn Sequeira and Fr. John Sequeira will be residing
in this house while being attached to the Koteshwar community. May
God be glorified through this new presence!
