ANNUAL DAY CELEBRATION OF ST. TERESA OF
AVILA OCDS COMMUNITY
The Annual Day Celebration of St. Teresa of Avila Community,
Bikarnakatte, Mangaluru, affiliated with St. Joseph’s Monastery,
Bikarnakatte, Mangaluru, took place on October 13, 2023, at the St.
Joseph’s Monastery Hall. The event was a joyful Family Get-Together,
graced by the presence of distinguished guests, Brothers, and family
members.
The function was presided over by Rev. Fr Melvin D’Cunha OCD, the
Superior of St. Joseph’s Monastery. Rev. Fr Deep Fernandes OCD, the
Provincial Delegate of OCDS, honoured the occasion as the Chief
Guest. Additionally, Rev. Fr Liguory Crasta OCD, Administrator of
Ryshivana, Ranipur, was present as the Guest of Honour. Rev. Fr Ivan
D'souza OCD, Spiritual Assistant, Mrs. Jacintha Lobo OCDS, President
of the Council, and Mrs. Laveena D'mello, Provincial Council member,
Presided over the function.
The program commenced with Mass at the Shrine followed by Vespers. A
concise report was presented by Mrs. Precilla D’Souza, OCDS,
Secretary. Rev. Fr Melvin D’Cunha OCD expressed gratitude to the
OCDS members for their dedicated service to the Shrine. In his
address, the Chief Guest, Rev. Fr Deep Fernandes OCD, acknowledged
this OCDS group as one of the oldest, emphasizing its maturity and
ongoing development. He emphasized the importance of hard work and
service to the needy for further progress. Mrs. Laveena Dmello, OCDS,
a member of the Provincial Council, elaborated on the chosen theme
of the Annual Day, highlighting the symbolism of grapes in a
vineyard to uniting together, drawing parallels to the community's
unity.
Prizes were distributed during the celebration to the winners of
several competitions that were organized previously for the members
which included Chutney Making, Cooking without Fire, Flower and
Flower Vaz making, Garland making, Musical Chair, Thread and Needle,
Lemon and Spoon, and Breaking the Pot.
Spot games coordinated by Mrs. Laveena Dmello added to the lively
atmosphere, and a Cultural Programme was organized for everyone's
enjoyment. Mrs. Benedicta D’Souza, the formator, delivered the vote
of thanks, while Mrs. Mary Rebello adeptly hosted and compered the
entire program.
