The annual meeting of the Carmel Social Mission was held on
September 01, 2025 at Sadbhavana, Carmelite Provincialate. Besides
the friars directly involved in the social apostolate, Fathers Ivan
D’Souza, Nelson Pinto, and Stifan Perera participated in the
gathering.
The meeting commenced with a meaningful prayer service led by Fr
Nelson Pinto, followed by a creative inaugural ceremony and a
welcome address by Fr Joachim Rodrigues, the councillor-in-charge of
Apostolate and Mission.
Mr. Anthony Kanickaraj (Vikram), Director of the Karnataka
Development Minority Corporation, was the resource person for the
day. In his insightful address, he highlighted various schemes
available through government departments and emphasized ways to
leverage these opportunities for the growth of Church’s mission, and
to alleviate the poor and the marginalized of the community.
Subsequently, the directors of the various units presented brief
reports of their activities and voiced out their concerns on the
challenges they face in the missions. The agenda primarily focused
on strategizing how to effectively tap into Corporate Social
Responsibility (CSR) funds to support the mission’s initiatives. It
was also decided to include the Superior of the Carmelite Monastery
Margao and the Parish Priest of St Joseph’s Church, Mira Road, in
the mission team.
In his concluding remarks, Rev. Provincial Superior expressed
gratitude to all participants for their enthusiastic engagement and
dedication to the ministry. With the words of appreciation rendered
by Fr Ronald Pudthado, the meeting was drawn to a close!
