CEREMONIES – LOWER MAINLAND COMMUNITIES : WESTERN CANADA OCDS
How blessed the Lower Mainland Communities to have their Ceremonies on October 1, 2015, the Feast of St. Therese. The Ceremonies took place at St. Edmund’s Parish, North Vancouver, BC during a solemn Eucharistic Celebration officiated by Fr. Jerald D’Souza with St. Edmund’s parishioners, OCDS members, their family and friends in attendance. Seven candidates received their scapulars, one candidate made her First Promise and four candidates made their Definitive Promises. The Vancouver Community has much reason to be particularly joyful for a bonanza year with seven of the twelve candidates being members of their community. The candidates radiated pure contagious joy which was shared by all present with tears and smiles. The occasion culminated with refreshments and fellowship in the parish hall.

ANNUAL OCDS MEETING WITH PROVINCIAL DELEGATE in Canada.
Secretariat officers, Molly Diaz and Leslie Blair, met with Provincial Delegate Fr. Jerald D’Souza on September 29 for a curia meeting at St. Edmund’s Parish, North Vancouver BC. There was a briefing and discussion of the past year’s events and future plans were tabled. The following day, September 30, 2016, they were joined by the Presidents and Directors of Formation of all the communities for the annual meeting. The meeting commenced with Morning Prayer and Mass followed by morning refreshments after which it convened in the basement of the church. The Calgary and Vernon representatives were acknowledged for their sacrifice, time and expense to attend at the Vancouver venue. Reports were presented by everyone. Community officers were able to share how they conducted their meetings and how they implemented the formation syllabus.

Twin Birthday celebrations at Pushpashrama
On the 28th of September 2016, the community of Pushpashrama celebrated the Birthday of Fr. Paul D’ Souza and Fr. Ronald D’ Souza, the master of Philosophy Students, whose Birthday was on the 14th of September. The birthday program began with a prayer hymn followed by an entertainment song and a dance. The brothers also performed a skit, an orchestra and a joke. The highlight of the event was the musical piece played by Fr. Paul on the violin which raised the eyebrow of all the members of the community. Fr Oswald Crasta on behalf of the fathers and Br Viltan on behalf of the brothers enumerated and acknowledged the contributions of the birthday babies towards the community and the formation of the brothers.

Pushpashrama honours its Patroness
Pushpashrama community privileged to honour its patroness St Therese of Child Jesus on the 1st of October 2016. It was an auspicious day to celebrate and rejoice with our patroness for the manifold blessings that Pushpashrama received through the intercession of St Therese. The day commenced with the solemn lauds (Morning Prayer) where the entire community congregated at the seminary chapel to sing the praises of God. The festal mass was presided over by Rev Fr Vincent Fernandes, the rector of Minor Seminary, Mysore diocese at 11-15am along with other 16 concelebrants from the neighboring communities. The religious sisters, Dr Kanthraj and Family and Mr Joychen and family were the privileged guests of honour who joined the celebration to honour the patroness. Rev Fr Vincent in his homily highlighted the little way and the spiritual childhood of St Therese and invited all to walk in the footsteps of St Therese in following the Lord.

Province Retreat at Sadbhavana II
The third batch of friars from the Province gathered at Sadbhavana, from 19th of September to 23rd of September 2016, for the annual retreat. It was preached by Rev. Dr. Ivel J. Mendanha C.Ss.R, the Provincial of the Vice-Province of Majella. There were 24 participants who were inspired by the thought provoking reflections of the preacher. Fr. Jeevan Tauro expressed the sentiments of gratitude to Fr. Ivel on his hat trick retreat for the Carmelites. Fr. George Santhumayor offered a gift to the preacher as a token of our love and appreciation and Fr. Jossy Rodrigues, the former superior of Sadbhavana acknowledged the hospitality of the present superior by offering him a flower. The kitchen staff was thanked for their whole hearted service all through these days.

Konkani Natak Sabha - Inter-Parish Competitions
Bajjodi Parish bagged overall Championship
Infant Mary Parish, Bajjodi bagged overall championship in all the competitions held during the year-2016. In the beginning Fr Peter Cyprian D’Souza welcomed the gathering. The prizes of the competitions were distributed by the KNS president Fr Peter Cyprian D’Souza along with Santosh Sequeira, proprietor of Santhosh Arrangers. KNS vice president Prem Lobo, general secretary Sunil Menezes and joint secretary and others were present. Sunil Menezes read the list of prize winners and congratulated them on behalf of Konkani Natak Sabha and proposed vote of thanks. After returning there was a procession from bikarnakatte to Infant Mary Church. The atmosphere at the church was like carnival procession. The parishioners young and old alike danced together to the rhythm of band and celebrated the victory.

One Day Workshop for Youth Held at Londa
LONDA: Holy Family Church, Londa organised a day seminar/workshop for the youth of Londa Parish on the theme, “All Ye Youth! Proclaim Life.” Br. Malvino Alfonso OCD was the resource person. Br. Alfonso clarifying the terms youth and datholic youth appealed the youngsters to respect life and proclaim it. He highlighted the importance of living a good life. He also dealt with the topics like ‘challenges faced by the catholic youth,’ ‘love v/s infatuation’ and ‘interpersonal relationships.’ The participants also presented role plays on the contribution of youth to the society, family and the church. Fr. Anthony D’Souza OCD, Parish Priest of Holy Family Church, Londa welcomed the youth and proposed vote of thanks.

Province Retreat at Sadbhavana
The second batch of friars from the Province gathered at Sadbhavana, from 12th of September to 16th of September 2016, for the annual retreat. It was preached by Rev. Dr. Ivel J. Mendanha C.Ss.R, the Provincial of the Vice-Province of Majella. There were 23 participants who experienced the love of the Lord in the silence of Sadbhavana cloisters in pursuit of being mystics in the metropolitan.

​Family feast celebrated at Infant Mary Chruch, Bajjodi
Mangalore, Sep 11: The family feast celebration in Infant Mary Church, Bajjodi began with the Eucharistic celebration on Sunday, September 11. The solemn mass was celebrated by Mangalore diocesan Vicar General Monsignor Denis Moras Prabhu along with Fr. Manoj Braganza, Fr. Adolf, Fr. Melwyn D’cunha, Parish Priest Fr. Shabas Crasta & Asst. Priest Fr. Ivan D’souza. The cultural programme began at 10.30am in the Community Hall. Vicar General Fr. Denis Moras, Corporator Keshav, South MLA J.R. Lobo were the chief guests of honour on this occasion. Fr. Melwyn D’cunha, Fr. Shabas Crasta, Fr. Ivan D’souza, Mr. Joseph Mascarenhas, the vice president and Irene Pinto, the secretary shared the stage with these dignitaries.

Golden Jubilee of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish - London Ontario
On September 11 St. Andrew the Apostle church, London Ontario, Canada, celebrated the Golden Jubilee of the Parish. St. Andrew the Apostle church was established in 1966. Through the generosity of Joseph Fallon who donated the land in memory of his deceased wife Alice Fallon, we are grateful to have St. Andrew’s Church to worship in. The parish was named St. Andrew the Apostle in recognition of many years of service to the Diocese by Monsignor Andrew P. Mahoney as the rector of St. Peter’s seminary and Vicar General of the Diocese. Before the mass, there was a small power point presentation on all the priests who served the parish.

Mysore Konkani Kutam at Pushpashrama
September 11, 2016 Sunday, the Konkani Kutam of Mysore region celebrated the solemnity of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary at the Infant Jesus Shrine, Pushpashrama. The Children and the elders congregated around the statue of Infant Mary and offered flowers. The new corn was blessed at the grotto of our Lady which was followed by the concelebrated festive mass which was presided over by Fr Vinod Lobo. Rev Fr Dominic Vas, the Director of Dhyanavana in his homily highlighted the decadence of the family values in the modern world and invited all to follow the virtues of Mary in our Christian families. The Pushpashrama philosophy brothers along with the youth of Konkani Kutam gave an angelic outlook to the celebration through their melodious voices.

Family fest at Ranithota
The Carmelite friars of Ranithota, Pushpashrama had a great reason to rejoice and celebrate at the birthday of our heavenly Mother which was solemnized on the 8th of September. The family celebration commenced at 1-00pm where the entire community including the domestic staff congregated at the decorated refectory of the monastery. The philosophy brothers through an enactment highlighted the traditional importance of the family feast. Later the community gathered for prayer service, where the selected friars prayed for various intentions in fifteen different languages. Fr Alfred Menezes, the rector gave a message of unity and invited all to be messengers of unity and peace in the community. After which the senior most friar Fr Paul mixed the new corn with the milk and prayed the grace before the meals. Thus the family fest at the Ranithota was a grand celebration which included 48 dishes of vegetables.

Province Retreat at Ryshivana
The first batch of friars from the Province gathered at Ryshivana, Ranipura from 29th of August to 2nd of September 2016, for the annual retreat. It was preached by Rev. Dr. Ivel J. Mendanha C.Ss.R, the Provincial of the Vice-Province of Majella. All the 36 participants appreciated the rich reflections offered by the preacher and the natural scenic beauty of the place. Thanks to the community of Ryshivana for making the experience spiritually enriching and rewarding.

Canadian Carmelites' Regional meeting held at Kitchener - Hamilton (Ontario)
We the members of Canadian Carmelite Region of Karnataka-Goa Province met together at Kitchener-Hamilton from August 22nd to 25th for our annual meeting. after our arrival on n August 22nd, we had the solemn celebration of the Holy Eucharist on August 23rd; Fr. Rajesh Madtha, the Birthday boy being the main celebrant and Fr. Jason Tellis the inspiring preacher. Fr. Rajesh Madtha was felicitated after the mass and people who gathered prayed for him and congratulated him. After the Holy Eucharistic celebration, we had morning prayer followed by a great breakfast. At 10 am we began the meeting by the reading the last meeting's report and election of the secretaries for registering the minutes of the meeting. Many issues connected with the region and its development were discussed. Fr. Jerald D'Souza presented the annual accounts to the members and Fr. Ranjan D'sa briefed the members the obligations all residents have towards CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) were elaborated. We also discussed the prospects the Carmelites have in Canada and the need for recruiting new vocations was also an important point that was thoroughly discussed.
After the meeting, we had a great lunch and thereafter we visited St Joseph's Cloistered Carmel at Agatha - Hamilton. We all the members are intensely grateful to Fr. Jerome Mascarenhas and Fr. Roshan D'Souza for making our stay comfortable and providing us with tempting banquets of great and delicious food. We also thank all the members especially Fr. Jerald D'Souza for organizing the event and Fr. Ranjan D'Sa for technical support. Frs. Jason Tellis, Fr. Mario Fernandes, Fr. Victor Fernandes have provided us with the logistical support and Fr. John Pinto for his great moral and spiritual support during this week. Fr. Steny Mascarenhas and Fr. Godwin were busy in contacting the local security to keep us safe during this great event. Fr. Alwyn Sequeira was entrusted with the work of liturgy and spirituality and was successful in keeping up the real Carmelite Spirit among us. We did not give any work given to Fr. Rajesh Madtha as he was celebrating his birthday. Fr. Alfredo was entrusted with the task of monitoring the situation and we thank him. Since Vijay Martin is new to Canada we kept him completely free; Frs. Melwin Pinto and Ronald Sequeira were also given total freedom as they looked tired and came from a missionary hard working region.
On August 24th we traveled to Niagara Falls to spend a day in fun, relaxation, and sightseeing. On August 25th most of the friars left back to their communities.

B’day of the First person celebrated
B’day of the First Person of the Province was celebrated in all solemnity on the 25th of August in Sadbhavana. All the fathers of the Bangalore region gathered in the eve to wish our dear Fr. Provincial. Fr. George Santhumayor, Vicar Provincial raised the toast acknowledging all his service at the Province level and Generalate level and wished him all the best. Fr. Isidore honored the Provincial with the colorful bouquet of flowers filled with fraternal love and brotherly affection. Fr. Provincial thanked everyone for the whole hearted collaboration and co-operation. Fr. Jerald D’Souza, Superior had spread the sumptuous table to add flavor to the celebration. After the dinner Fr. Walter Lobo led the group to sing 'Besanv Tujer Pondondi' and few other party songs to bring joy into the celebration.

Birthday of Provincial @ Baroda
August 24, 2016 – on the feast day of St Bartholomew, the faithful of Gorwa parish along with the parish community and the young priests of the K.G. Province celebrated the anticipated birthday of Rev Fr Charles Serrao, the Provincial Superior. The formal celebration commenced at 6-30pm where the birthday baby along with the 11 young priests and Frs Kaushik and Noel gathered around the altar of the Lord to celebrate the Sacrament of love and to thank the Lord for the gift of life. Since the mass was in Gujarati language, Fr Sunil Monis, Superior and Parish priest presided over the Eucharist and preached a meaningful homily highlighting the experience of the Lord in our day today lives. Towards the end of the celebration, Fr Sunil made known to the community the intention of the celebration and the birthday baby was requested to cut the cake.

Young priests unite at Vadodara
The young priests of the K.G. Province congregated at the newly inaugurated monastery which was dedicated to St Therese of Child Jesus at Gorwa, Vadodara for their annual meeting which commenced on 22 and concluded on 25 august 2016. The formal inauguration of the meeting was held on August 22 at 7-30 pm, where Rev Fr George Santhumayor, Councilor for Ongoing formation presided over the Eucharistic celebration along with the 11 young priests of our province. The traditional way of lighting the lamp which gave a green signal for the meeting. Fr George in his homily invited all the young priests to be witnesses in our religious communities by becoming the role models and exemplary religious.

CARMEL HILL CANADA - GETTING STRONGER AND BIGGER - PHOTOS MAY-JULY 2016
Dear Friends,
It is my pleasure to let you know that our Monastery in Canada: Little Flower Monastery (Carmel Hill) is getting stronger and bigger. Since May this year till the end of July we had approximately 11 groups ranging from Bible Study group, Neo Catecuminal group, Jesuits Students, Aspirant Deacons, Angelina's Prayer Group, Lay sisters, Lay people, Blessed Sacrament Parish prayer Group etc. have come and experienced God and our hospitality. We are excited that many more have booked our facility and it is growing stronger and bigger. We have heard reports of our Monastery from far East of Canada (Ontario) to Vancouver a distance of 7000 kms. We get many visitors and are excited to know that this facility is indeed growing. Bro. Frank Sharma a new aspirant is doing his pre-postulancy in our facility and Bro. Joseph Giroux is continuing his religious life with regular prayer and community life and Fr. Alwyn Sequiera is managing the whole campus with caliber and expertise with the help of the community members. Apart from the lay people many diocesan priests have been visiting the facility and getting to know what Carmelites can offer to their parishioners. With the Blessings of Archbishop Michael Miller CSB who has been the greatest support of this Monastery we are growing in our attempt at sharing our charism to the whole Vancouver Archdiocese. Moreover, many Christian denomination groups are interested in using our facility for Bible Study, prayer and spiritual-theological formation. This has been a great gift to Karnataka Goa Province and we are ever grateful to Helen Chua Tiampo and her team that supports her vision for the Carmelites in Canada.

Collage of Celebrations at SADBHAVANA!
The Superiors and formators meet was held on 21st of June, 2016, which was also the setting for some rejoicing.
- Fr. Provincial congratulated Rev. Fr. Wilfred Rodrigues on the completion of his doctorate. After expressing his words of appreciation to the scholar he was honoured with a shawl and Mysore Peta.
- It was an opportunity to wish Fr. Arun Lobo - the budding bursar of the province a very Happy Birthday (postponed from 1st of June).
- Rev. Fr. Nelson Osmond Vas, the newly ordained priest of the Province was felicitated on his first visit to Sadbhavana.
- Finally Fr. Richard Menezes was recognized on being conferred the literary award ‘Francis Danthi.’

Great B’day Celebration
Sadbhavana community was extremely happy to celebrate the B’day of Fr. Isidore D’Silva on the 2nd of August. All the communities of Bengaluru region gathered to wish many returns of the day to Rome return B’day baby. Fr. Isidore is stepping into his 75th year and on this auspicious occasion Fr. Provincial raised the toast and acknowledged his dedicated service now in the province and in the Generalate in the past. The province missed out the chance to celebrate his B’day for last 51 years as he was rendering his services in Rome (A golden jubilee of missing his B’day in province). All the fathers gathered wish him many more years to come after which all enjoyed the home-made delicacies prepared under the able leadership of Fr. Jerald, superior of Sadbhavana.

PROMISES TO KEEP! (Secular Carmel, Margao – Goa)
17th July, 2016 was a special day for Our Lady of Mount Carmel (OCDS) community of Margao, Goa. On this day 10 members of the community made their promises in the presence of Rev. Fr. Charles Serrao OCD, Provincial Superior. Fr. Silvestre D’Souza, the Councillor in-charge of Spirituality, Fr. Archibald Gonsalves, Superior and Fr. Peter D’Sa from Xellim, concelebrated at the Mass during which there was the liturgical ‘rite of Promises.’ The Church was packed to capacity with the faithful, among whom were family members and friends of those going to make their promises.

The OCDS of our Province march forward!
After the first OCDS Provincial Congress in October last year, Rev. Fr. Alzinir DEbastiani OCD, the General Delegate of the Secular Carmel on a visit to our Province, had suggested that we move towards forming an OCDS Provincial Council. Steps were taken in this regard and the four communities having members with Definitive Promises were requested to propose two candidates from their respective communities. After consultations with the Delegate Provincial and the Spiritual Assistants, the following have been appointed by the Provincial, Rev. Fr. Charles Serrao for a term of three years.

MOUNT CARMEL FEAST AT ST EDMUNDS CHURCH NORTH VANCOUVER
The Canadian Carmelites of Karnataka Goa Province celebrated Mount Carmel Feast on July 16th at 10 am in St. Edmund's Church - North Vancouver. Fr. Jerald arranged a wonderful celebration with the Bishop Paul Terrio from St. Paul's Diocese (Alberta) was the main celebrant and Fr. Rudolf and Fr. Jerald were concelebrants with the Bishop. We had also the pleasure of the presence of Frs. Steny Mucarenhas, Fr. Alwyn Sequeira, Fr. Rajesh Madtha, Bro. Joseph Giroux and Bro Frank Sharma (aspirant to Carmelites). There were more than 250 people present along with a wonderful presence of Secular Carmelites. The liturgy was well organized and Bishop Terrio gave a great homily stressing the importance of Prayer, contemplation and devotion to Mother Mary of Mount Carmel. The celebration ended with the blessing of scapulars and distribution. At the end of the liturgical celebration Fr. Rudolf invited all people to go to Carmel Hill a place of prayer, contemplation and meditation. He also stressed that the facility available is not only for religious retreats but also for lay people to spend time in peace with God. The parishioners organized a grand luncheon in the School hall and all were happy and joyful to celebrate this great Carmelite event. We congratulate Fr. Jerry for organizing this great celebration with a wonderful choir and other liturgically creative moments during this event.

Feast of our Lady of Mount Carmel @ Sadbhavana
The feast of our Lady of Mount Carmel was celebrated in Sadbhavana on 24th of July at 8:30am. Fr. Pius James D’Souza, Episcopal vicar for Religious in the diocese of Mangalore presided over the Eucharistic celebration and broke the word of God highlighting the Mercy of God envisioned in the life of Mary. All the friars from Sadbhavana along with Fr. Stephen Pereira and Fr. Gregory D’Souza concelebrated. Fr. Charles Serrao, Provincial Superior distributed the blessed candles to the donors and wished all the participants a very happy feast and expressed his gratitude for all their support and encouragement in the past twenty years as Sadbhavana completes twenty years of its inauguration. (Sadbhavana was inaugurated on the 25th of July, 1996.)

Br. Don Tony D'Souza ordained a deacon
Br. Don Tony D’Souza was ordained deacon on the 16th of June in St. Jeppu Seminary along with his diocesan batchmates. This year we have only one deacon in the person of Br. Don Tony D’Souza who hails from Miyar, Mangaluru. It was a joyous vocation to witness the diaconal ordination as Br. Don Tony along with his seventeen companions who were given the privilege to ascend the altar to preach the word of God and administer the Sacraments. We wish him all the very best for the diaconate ministry and the exams to come.

Feast of our Lady of Mount Carmel, at Benoni, South Africa
The feast of our lady of Mount Carmel was celebrated on 16th of July, 2016 at Benoni, South Africa. It was indeed an important day in the history of South African Mission. Rt. Rev. Dr Buti Tlhgale the Archbishop of Johannesburg blessed the new tabernacle and declared that the church dedicated in honor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel as a virtual parish. In his speech, the Archbishop thanked the Carmelite Fathers for their selfless service to the faithful in his archdiocese. The Solemn Festal Mass was at 5.00 pm. During the Mass, new batch of Secular Carmelites were admitted for a period of formation through the rite of Admission. Archbishop, in his homily explained the 15 new candidates the importance of Carmelite Spirituality for laity and asked them to discern their vocation as Secular Carmelites through the spirit of Prayer and commitment.

Confirmation Ceremony in our Lady of Loreto Church, Kempton Park, South Africa
It was indeed glad to have his grace Archbishop Buti OMI to confer the sacrament of confirmation for 34 students of the parish. During his homily the archbishop instructed the students to remain faithful to their commitment to Our Holy Mother Church and also emphasized to have a faithful devotion to our Blessed Mother and explained the importance of the sacrament of confirmation. He was assisted by Fr. Peter Rebello OCD the energetic parish priest and Berniece Eales who animated the liturgy meaningfully accompanied by the angelic singing church choir. 300 parishioners gathered to witness the ceremony. After the celebration Fr Peter thanked the Archbishop and all the newly confirmed candidates and Archbishop applauded the parish community for the generous service and commitment. After the mass all gathered in the hall for refreshments.

St. Dominic Parish, Hamilton Diocese - Ontario, Canada
Dear Fathers,
This is a good news from Canada. We have a new parish in Hamilton Diocese - Ontario. The new parish priest is Fr. Ranjan D'sa. St. Dominic Parish Oakville was established in 1955. Now approximately 500 – 600 people attend the weekend masses. The parish takes care of two elementary schools and a high school. The parish has a small chapel and the weekdays masses are celebrated in the chapel. It also has a small parish hall only used for parish activities. The area is residential and very beautiful. It is on the shores of Lake Ontario. On the 16th and 17th for the first time in the history of St. Dominic parish, we celebrated the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel - scapulars were distributed to all. Cudos to Fr. Ranjan D'sa for taking up this great responsibility as Pastor. Fr. Ranjan through his expertise as the Spiritual counsellor can do wonders in this parish and draw more vocations to Carmel. He has been a great pastor in St. Andrew the Apostle London Ontario for more than 6 years now and has transformed this parish as a centre of Spirituality and Contemplation. We wish him all the success and good time in this new venture.

Mount Carmel Feast at Katkere, Koteshwar
Mount Carmel feast was celebrated on the 16th July 2016 at Katkere, Koteshwar. The Holy Eucharist was presided over by Rev Fr. Pius James D’Souza, superior of Ryshivana and Episcopal Vicar for the religious of Mangalore diocese. Anil, the dean of the Kundapur deanery and many other priests concelebrated. The scapulars were distributed after the mass as a sign of Marian protection to all those who wear it.

Mount Carmel Feast celebrated at Infant Mary Church, Bajjodi
July 16th: Parishioners of bajjodi along with the vibrant Secular carmelite members celebrated the Feast of our Lady of Mount Carmel on the 16th of July, 2016 in Infant Mary Church at 5.30pm. Rev. Fr. Joe Tauro, Rector of St. Joseph Monastery Carmel Hill presided over the festive Eucharist and preached a heart touching sermon highlighting the motherly character of our Lady with a request to remain close to her to feel her affection and protection. Carmelite priests from near and far along with Parish Priest Fr. Shabas and Asst. Fr. Ivan concelebrated in the thanksgiving sacrifice. The angelic choir led by Clerita added flavor to the prayerful celebration. Scapulars, the sign of the motherly protection of Mary were distributed to the faithful after the mass.

Bro. Frank Sharma a new postulant at Carmel Hill, B.C., Canada
“Into the land of Carmel I have brought you to enjoy its fruits and its blessings” Jeremiah 2:7
On July 9, 20016 Bro. Frank Sharma arrived at Carmel Hill as a postulant to discern his call in Carmel. He was warmly welcomed by Fr. Alwyn the Superior and Formator and a longtime friend of Bro. Frank, Fr. Nicholas Tumbalake, who happened to be at Carmel Hill with the youth of his parish: Our Lady of Mercy, Burnaby BC. He cut the cake along with a birthday celebrant from among the youth and we all partook in the sumptuous meal prepared by the Valley Caterers for the occasion. Later Bro. Frank shared with the Mercy Youth his personal journey that led him to Carmelite Order. Frank was born and raised in Sri Lanka. For the past 14 years he has been living in Surry BC, Canada with his family.

Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Celebrated at Londa
LONDA: Carmelite Friars of Carmel Nivas Londa celebrated feast of their patroness Our Lady of Mount Carmel at the Holy Family Church Londa. “ 'Let us imbibe the virtues of Mother Mary specially the mercy lived and proclaimed by Mother Mary' said Fr. Teodozio Fernandes OCD in his heart touching homily. Fr. Fernandes was preaching homily on the theme:- Mary, Mother of Mercy. Fr. Anthony D’souza OCD, Superior and Parish Priest of Holy Family Church presided over the Eucharistic celebration. Fr. Venil D’souza OCD concelebrated. Elaborating on the mercy of Mother Mary Fr. Teodozio, referring to the different passages from the Gospel, reminded the faithful how Mary showed concern and mercy towards her Cousin Elizabeth, wedding at Cana, etc.

Golden Jubilee of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, London Ontario, Canada
The Diocese of London on June 15, 1965 officially erected a new parish under the patronage of St. Andrew the Apostle. The name of the parish was assigned by Bishop Carter in recognition of the distinguished service of Monsignor Andrew P. Mahoney, Vicar General of the Diocese at that time. The new church was in fact founded on the charismatic personality of Rev. Fr. John McMaster, who was its first pastor until he died on May 13, 1973.  St. Andrews Church is on the Fallons Lane. This name is given to this street in honour of the donor of the land, Joseph Fallon in memory of his wife Alice Fallon, a native of Mount Carmel, Ontario. The New Church Building of St. Andrew the Apostle was blessed by Bishop Carter on June 1966.

Adieu Program to Fr. Ranjan
There were two sendoff programs arranged for Fr. Ranjan the outgoing Pastor of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish - One by the parishioners and another by non parishioners. More than 400 people attended the event, which is a great indicator to show how much he was loved and appreciated. He was thanked for his excellent pastoral work in the parish for the last six years of his pastoral ministry. The president of parish pastoral council could not complete his speech as he was in tears filled with emotions. Fr. Ranjan no doubt, had made a great impact on people for which all will miss him.

Parish Feast at Kitchener, Canada
The Annual Feast of St. Aloysius Parish, Kitchener, ON, Canada was celebrated for the first time on 26th June 2016. Bishop Mathew Ustrzycki, the Auxiliary Bishop of Hamilton presided over the solemn Eucharistic celebration at 11.00am which was attended by not less than 250 people. In his inspirational homily Bishop Ustrzycki preached on the Mercy of God and invited everyone to experience His mercy personally and to become sharers of mercy. This celebration was solemnized with the presence of Knights of Columbus. Fr. Jerome Mascarenhas, the pastor meticulously planned for the day and it was indeed appreciated by the parishioners. The joy of this celebration was enhanced with the Parish Picnic consisting of Music and Entertainment, Games, Display Counters and Canadian BBQ .

Inauguration of Dhyanavana Spirituality Course
The 20th Diploma Spirituality of Dhyanavana was inaugurated on Sunday, 3rd July 2016, during the Eucharistic celebration which was officiated by Rev. Fr. Silvestre D’Souza OCD, Councillor in charge of Spirituality. More than 25 Carmelites and other religious priests and around 100 sisters and brothers attended the celebration. During the homily Fr. Silvestre explained the spirituality of St. Thomas the Apostle inviting the participants to be courageous as the brave apostle. This year God has blessed the institute with 41 participants. Some more participants for the short courses are expected along with a good number of Day Scholars from different congregations.

Integrity in Ministry
On 25 June 2016, the members of Parish Pastoral Council and Parish Finance Committee of Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church, along with the Parish Priest Fr Peter Rebello, came for the annual retreat at Carmelite Retreat House Benoni. Fr Arvin Tauro, the Director of the Center preached the retreat on the theme 'Integrity in Ministry.' In his preaching, Fr Arvin explained how the church promotes and encourages integrity of lay leadership in all aspects of pastoral ministry. He said, “by various kinds of lay leadership in the church, clergy and lay leaders enter into a covenantal relationship with the people of God. It is a relationship modeled on God’s steadfast love and faithfulness.”

Transform for Triumph
Around one hundred youth gathered on 18 of June, 2016 at Carmel Retreat House, Benoni, South Africa for a day’s retreat. 'Transform for Triumph' was the theme of the retreat. Fr Peter Rebello, the superior welcomed the Youth at 10 am. Fr Arvin Tauro and Mr Chris Shaw, a Charismatic leader preached the retreat, animating the youth in praise and worship and spiritual talks. A great number of youth were present from Kempton Park and Actonville Parish, where Fr Peter and Boniface D’Souza are parish priests respectively. There was also a small group of youth from other parishes who participated in the retreat. The retreat concluded with the celebration of Eucharist at 6.00 pm.

K.G. PROVINCE SALUTES THE NEW DOCTOR
June 23, 2016 – was a red letter day in the life of Fr Alphonse Britto and the Karnataka Goa Province, as he successfully defended his doctoral thesis on the theme – “Integration of Christian Spirituality and Contemplation in the life and teachings of Pope John Paul II: A Study with a special reference to His Apostolic Exhortations Christifideles Laici, Pastores Dabo Vobis and Vita Consecrata”. The doctoral defense was held at the Pontifical Theological Faculty and Pontifical Institute of Spirituality, Teresianum, Rome. It was commenced at 16-00 hours which was attended by sizeable number of Carmelites from Teresianum, Santa Maria della Scala and Santa Maria Empoli and his friends.

Beginning of the Educational apostolate!
The first phase of Mount Carmel School, Kalaburgi, consisting of 4 classrooms was blessed on the 16th of June, 2016. Rev. Fr Jerome Moras, Provincial Councilor in-charge of social work and apostolate was the chief guest. The programme started at 10:30 am. with the blessing of the new edifice, by Fr. Jerome Moras. The Superior, Fr Sylvester Pereira welcomed the gathering. Fr. Nelson Pinto compered the programme. Fr Arun Bennis proposed the vote of thanks. Fr. Arun Bennis while expressing his sentiments acknowledged the generous contribution from the Canada region, especially the benefactor: Miss Helen Chua Tiampo, through the relentless efforts of Rev. Fr. Rudolf V. D’Souza, the support of the Provincial Administration and the committed and dedicated efforts of Fr. Lawrence D’Cunha, Provincial Councilor in charge of temporalities who meticulously took care of the construction from the beginning.

Lectio Brevis 2016-2017
Lectio Brevis of the current academic year took place on the fifteenth of June, 2016 in Pushpashrama. The celebration began with the Holy Eucharist presided over by Rev. Fr. Silvestre D'Souza, Councilor in charge of spirituality. He also preached a meaningful homily inviting the brothers to grow in wisdom. After a sumptuous tea-break the inaugural ceremony of the academic year took place in the seminary auditorium. Br. Elvis compered the programme and Rev. Fr. Alfred Menezes Rector of the College spread the carpet of red roses to all the invitees. Rev. Fr. Paul D’Souza, the professor par excellence introduced the speaker of the day. Rev. Fr. Wilfred Rodrigues the latest doctor of the province presented the Lectio Brevis on the theme ‘Personal fulfilment and happiness through freedom from cravings, a comparative study of Gautama Buddha and St. John of the Cross.’

On 5th June was inaugurated the ‘Initiation Course’ for the year 2016-2017, at Avila Jyothi, Carmelite Seminary, Mapusa – Goa. Fr. Silvestre D’Souza OCD, Provincial Councillor for Vocation Promotion (in the absence of the Provincial, who is away in Rome), presided over the Sunday Eucharist. The friars of the formation community and the Vocation Promoters who had accompanied the boys to Mapusa, concelebrated.

Sacred Heart of Jesus honoured at Margao
"A little bit of mercy makes the world less cold and more just." - Pope Francis. The Carmelite Monastery Margao has been a place where people experience the mercy of the Lord in the diocese of Goa. The feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was celebrated with great reverence in this year of mercy. People nourished their faith as they gathered for the Eucharistic procession and adoration followed by solemn mass. Fr. Archie the superior presided over the celebration and in his homily called on the faithful to have a sacred heart like that of Jesus full of mercy and love.

A new batch of Postulants
The community of Carmelite Monastery Margao welcomed the new postulancy brothers with joy and happiness. As our provincial is out of station Fr. Silvester was present during the inaugural liturgy on the 6th of June 2016. Fr. Silvester welcomed the brothers exhorting them to know and learn more about Carmelite way of life during these 6 months of postulancy and a year of noviciate. Ordination of Fr.Nelson Osmand Vas
We are extremely delighted to have another priest to our province in the person of Fr. Nelson Osmand Vas who was ordained on the 30th of May in Our Lady of sorrows church Udupi. Most. Rev. Gerald Isac Lobo Bishop of Udupi anointed him in the presence of almost 50 priests and church-full of devotees. After the Eucharistic celebration there was a felicitation programme in Sheshashayana Hall of Kediuyoor Hotel where all his friends with Carmelite Friars felicitated him and partook in his celestial joy. Rev. Fr. Archibald Gonsalves raised the toast and Fr. George Santhumayor expressed his sentiments of joy on behalf of Provincial who could not be present for this joyous event.

Solemn Profession @ Infant Jesus Shrine, Mangalore

It was a day of great joy and jubilation for the Carmelites on 31st of May, 2016 at 3.30 pm, as they witnessed five young and energetic brothers pronouncing their religious vows for life at the Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte - Mangaluru. The rite of Solemn Profession animated by Fr. Prakash D’Cunha OCD, was beautifully integrated in the Eucharistic celebration. Rev. Fr. George Santhumayor the Vicar Provincial, exhorted the candidates to be ‘the beacons of Joy of the Gospel.’ The highlight of the ceremony was making the religious profession in the hands of the Vicar Provincial of the Carmelites, Rev. Fr. George Santhumayor OCD.

Rector's day sparkles
May 25, 2016 Wednesday was a sparkling day at the historical monastery of Scala, as the Rector Rev. Fr Ivan Pinto celebrated his gift of life. The day was a mixture of happiness and jubilation initiated with a morning prayer where the giver of life was praised and thanked for the numerous blessings showered upon the birthday baby. The official celebration commenced at 6-30pm with the thanksgiving Eucharistic celebration presided over by the rector who was the center of attraction. Fr Rudolph Pinto, the vice rector in his introduction invited each one to thank God for the person of Fr Ivan Pinto and pray for his intentions. During the homily, Fr Ivan gave a clarion call to practice the message of the Gospel “the attitude of a servant” and to be open minded in our disposition. The spiritual celebration was followed by the birthday dinner, where Fr Sunil Rodrigues invoked God’s blessings upon the meal. Later as the birthday baby crossed the knife over the cake, all the community members with one voice sang the birthday song “Tanti auguri a te” and conveyed birthday greetings. The birthday dinner was organized by Fr Lancy Lewis, the procurator of the community which was filled with variety of dishes both Indian and Italian. The sparkling rector’s day was concluded with a traditional hymn to Mother Mary in Konkani “tum kalzachea gondya mhojea”.

Retreat House cum parish in South Africa
The Carmel Retreat House at South Africa is now also a Virtual Parish! The Archbishop of Johannesburg, Rt. Rev. Dr Buti Tlhagale has given the permission to the Carmelite Fathers to work as virtual parish at the Retreat House. Now we can have Sunday Mass, administer all the sacraments and keep our own parish record for the Baptism and Marriage. This indeed is one of the important mile stones in the South African Mission of our province. Fr Arvin Tauro, the Director of the Carmelite Retreat House will also be in charge of the Virtual Parish.

Johannes Gorantla (Definitor General from Rome), the photos of a few groups who spent time at Carmel Hill and are totally amazed at nature, surroundings and the beauty of the place; Fr. Alwyn and Bro. Joseph Giroux the community members who manage the facility beautifully and a few nuns who spent time at our facility for spiritual recollection. All looks good at Carmel Hill; and the preparations are on to accommodate new groups in the coming days and weeks. We thank again in a special way Helen Chua Tiampo who made all this possible through her team of advisors, estate planners, accountants, and lawyers; and a special remembrance of her dear parents: Jaime and Josephina Chua Tiampo and we pray for the repose of their souls.

On 14th of May, several people had a Pentecost Experience at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Retreat House, Benoni, South Africa. It was a full day retreat in preparation for the feast of Pentecost. Fr Arvin Tauro, the Director of the Retreat House began the retreat at 10.00 am. Frs Boniface D’Souza and Fr Arvin preached the retreat in which many people experienced the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

JESUS, the High priest chooses two more for his priestly fold!
Deacon Stephen Lobo was ordained on the 22nd of April in Infant Jesus Church, Modankap, while on the following day it was the turn of Deacon Ashwin Rohan D’Silva in the newly established parish of St. Francis Xavier, Saverapura. Most Rev. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, the Bishop of Mangalore laid his hands on the ordinandi and anointed their hands at the meaningful rite of Priestly Ordination. Around 40 priests (mostly Carmelite friars) participated in these functions, along with the families and villagers. It is after a long time that the ordination ceremony is not held jointly at our St. Joseph’s Monastery, Carmel Hill. Since there were only two candidates, the Bishop willingly accepted to conduct the Priestly Ordinations in their respective native parishes. He wished that there be a boom of vocations from among the youngsters who witnessed the celebrations. We all pray that the newly ordained work with zeal for the church and in particular in our Province.

Foundation day of St. Joseph's Church, Actonville
65th foundation day of the parish was celebrated at St. Joseph's Church, Actonville, South Africa on Sunday 1st of May. Foundation for this church was laid on 1st May 1951. In the course of time this foundation has witnessed many changes and alterations. The present existing Church was built by Fr. Joachim Rodrigues. The celebration began with the procession with the statue of St. Joseph. Fr. John D Souza, the guest priest from Cape Town carried the statue in procession. During the Mass Fr. Arvin Tauro preached a homily on unity. He also urged the youngsters to respect the hard work of the elders and to live the spirituality handed on to us by our ancestors.

Renewal Retreat For Secular Carmel in South Africa
On 30 of April the members of the Secular Carmel of Johannesburg community came together for a day of Renewal program at Benoni, Carmelite Retreat House. Fr Arvin Tauro, the director of the Retreat House animated the program. There are eleven active members in the community and all of them participated in the program. Fr John D’Souza, who had come from Cape Town, for a friendly visit to Benoni, with his Guitar led the group into meditative prayer. All members expressed their joy for this spiritual renewal program.

Blessing of the Foundation Stone in Kempton
On the 29th of April the foundation stone was laid for the extension of Our Lady of Loreto Church, Kempton after the Eucharist. Fr. Peter Rebello the parish priest gave a scriptural background for the blessing of the foundation stone before he blessed the corner stone for the edifice. He reminded people that Jesus Christ is the high priest and he is the foundation of the Church. He also invited people to contribute to the foundation of the Church by their faith filled lives insisting that the church stands strong on the faith of the people of God. Mrs. Bernice read the word of God from the first letter of St. Peter (2: 4-12). After the intercessory prayers Fr. Peter Rebello placed the medal of St. Joseph and the Scapular on the stone and blessed the stone.

Chetan Acharya, President of Konkani Bhasha Mandal was the guest of honour. Speaking on the occasion Chetan Acharya stressed on the need of thought provoking lliterature. Sudesh Naik congratulated Br. John M. Alfonso OCD for giving the readers value-based literature and focussed on the need of readership to Konkani literature. Kamlakar Mhalshi of Om Shree Dutt Padmaja Prakaxon welcomed the gathering. Konkani writer Guadalupe Dias reviewed the book. Fr. Henry Moras OCD, Chaplain, Our Lady of Fatima Chapel, Xellim and Fr. Avito Fernandes, Parish Priest, St. Francis Xavier’s Church, Bhatpal, were on the dais.

Hearty Congratulation to Fr. Ajay Nazareth
Fr. Ajay Nazareth defended his thesis for licentiate on the 7th of April, 2016. Gasper Martinez was the moderator for the defence and Carlos Garcia Llata guided his thesis. We are happy to present to you the glimpse of his thesis in his own words. The friendship of God according to St. Teresa of Jesus in the book of Life. My thesis begins with the words of Pope Francis to the young people, where he invites the new generation to share the friendship of Jesus through the mass media. He explained that, the proposal the Lord has for all young people is a "true friendship, the friendship we all need. Friends like Jesus" this phrase sounds something like what our St. Teresa said in the sixteenth century: "in these times [...] are required strong friends of God to support the weak" (Life 15.5).

The Feast of Divine Mercy was a grand celebration at the Carmelite Monastery Margao.
As our present Pope Francis dedicated this year to ponder on the Divine Mercy of our God, the diocese of Goa and Daman chose the Carmelite monastery as the centre of Divine Mercy appreciating the availability of the priests for the sacrament of confession and for the spread of this devotion in the whole of the diocese. The feast on the 3rd of April was solemnized by the presence of Dr. Filipe Neri Ferrao, the Archbishop of Goa and Rev. Fr. Charles Serrao, our provincial. Fr. Socorro Mendes the convener of the year of Mercy explained to the congregation the vital role of the Carmelite Fathers in the spread of the devotion of the Divine Mercy in the diocese of Goa. Fr. Anastasio Gomes and Fr. Antonio Silva were the pioneers of this devotion.

Divine Mercy Sunday at our Lady of Lereto, Kempton Park, South Africa
Hundreds of faithful gathered to celebrate the Divine Mercy Sunday at Our Lady of Lereto Parish, Kempton Park, South Africa. Fr Peter Rebello, the Parish Priest prepared the faithful for the feast with Novena to the Divine Mercy. On 4 April 2016, Divine Mercy Sunday, the celebration stated at 1.30 pm with the sacrament of Reconciliation. Frs Patrick CP, Dadrick CP, Boniface D’Souza OCD, Arvin Tauro OCD helped the Parish Priest, for the celebration of the Sacrament. Fr Boniface D’Souza OCD presided over the concelebrated Mass at 03.00 pm. Fr Arvin Tauro who preached during the mass said Divine Mercy can be a hope for people who do not find meaning in life.

Carmelites Fraternity Reinforced
March 29, 2016 Tuesday, the Carmelites of K.G. Province serving and studying in Italy congregated together at the historical monastery of Santa Maria della Scala, Rome to celebrate the Resurrection of the Lord. The spiritual celebration commenced at 11-00 am with the Eucharistic banquet presided over by Fr Elias D’ Cunha, the assistant parish priest of Santa Maria, Empoli. Fr Sunil Rodrigues through his inspirational reflection invited all to have deeper and profound union with the Risen Lord setting aside our indifferences. Fr Ivan Pinto, rector of Scala laid a red carpet welcome and expressed words of gratitude to all for their gracious presence. The spiritual festivity was followed by the fellowship meal which added authentic aroma to the celebration. Fr Lawrence D’ Mello invoked the blessings of the Almighty upon the food. Thus the fraternity and unity was reinforced, enriched and cherished by each and every Carmelite who witnessed the celebration.

Holy Week Celebrations in Sadbhavana
Sadbhavana witnessed a very meaningful Celebration of the Holy Week this year with lots of people participating in the liturgy. On Palm Sunday people gathered at the entrance of Sadbhavana for the blessing of the palms; after the blessing all the faithful went in a short but devout and meaningful procession. Fr. Jerald D’Souza, Superior of Sadbhavana, Presided over the Eucharist and Fr. Arun Lobo broke the word of God encouraging the faithful to spend more time in prayer and reflection in the holy week. Rev. Fr. Charles Serrao, Provincial Superior presided over the Eucharist on Maundy Thursday preaching a heart touching homily inspiring the listeners to understand the love of god in their respectives family life. Inspired by the suggestions of our Holy Father twelve representatives were chosen from the people of God comprising of six each men and women.

Wilfred Rodrigues OCD presently the rector of our novitiate house, Tapovana, Kushalnagar defended his thesis on 'Personal Fulfillment and Happiness through Freedom from Cravings - A Comparative Study of Gautama Buddha and St. John of the Cross' on the 11th of March in Mysore University. He finished his thesis much before the stipulated time. The research work of Fr. Easter Celebration at Amadlelo Aluhlaza, Benoni, South Africa.
The Easter Vigil Mass began at 6.30 pm followed by a small program. People brought and shared various eatables and celebrated the Resurrection of Jesus meaningfully.
As people themselves confessed it was for the first time they witnessed a very large number of congregation for Easter at Carmel. We have also begun the Divine Mercy Chaplet every day as a preparation for the feast of Divine Mercy.

St. Joseph's Catholic Church organised stations of the cross on the mountain on 13th of March. It is for the first time in the history of the parish such kind of devotion was organized. All the participants were spiritually moved by this experience of Calvary.

DHYANAVANA CONVOCATION DAY : March 19, 2016
The 19th convocation of Dhyanavana, International Institute of Spirituality, Mysore was held on 19 March 2016 at 6 p.m. A total number of 58 sisters received the Diploma and Certificates. 85 sisters attended the different courses throughout the year as residential and day scholars. The keynote convocation address was given by Prof. Jose V.K., Principal, Teresian College, Mysore, on the theme “The Debate on Secularism in our country and the response of the Priests and Religious”. V. Rev. Fr. Charles Serrao, the President of Dhyanavana Institute and Provincial of Karnataka-Goa Province, was the Chief Guest. In his address he appreciated Dhyanavana students, their prayerfulness and resourcefulness, academic and cultural performance.

BLESSING AND DEDICATION OF THE LITTLE FLOWER MONASTERY CHAPEL ON MARCH 19TH, 2016
Dear Friends,
Here I send you photos of the Blessing and Dedication of the Little Flower Monastery Chapel by Archbishop Michael Miller CSB on March 19th 2016 - Solemnity of St. Joseph, Patron of Canada. The weather was perfect and was the first day of Spring this year. Along with the Secular Carmelites there were 75 guests present for the celebration. Fr. Jerald D'Souza organized the liturgical celebration taking care of the meticulous details printed in the liturgical guide and distributed. Frs. Alwyn Sequeira, the Superior of the house, Bro. Joseph Giroux OCD, the bursar and Frs. Steyn Mascarenhas, Rajesh Madtha, Jason Tellis and Fr. Richard Francis D'Souza OCD were present on the occasion. Archbishop solemnly began the celebration blessing the Holy Water at the entrance of the Chapel and sprinkling on the faithful as he processed into the Chapel. After the readings Archbishop preached a spiritually enriching homily highlighting the importance of the blessing and dedication of a Chapel which has its roots in the Old and the New Testament. During the mass Solemn and long prayers of dedication were recited and sung; and the Litany of the Holy Saints was sung, after which the anointing of the Altar was held in a very solemn way; abundant oil was poured on the Altar Marble Slab and in a special way the Altar Relic was blessed and incense was burnt. After the celebration and before the final Blessing Fr. Rudolf V. D'Souza thanked the Archbishop for all his help and guidance and thanked each and every one who was instrumental in making this Blessing ceremony a great spiritual nourishment and experience. We thank Molly Dias and Susan and Larry for their help.

Helen's parents Jaime and Josephine Chua Tiampo were specially remembered and gratefully acknowledged Helen's contribution towards this massive building of the Little Flower Monastery. On this occasion we thank all those involved in this project: Helen's Estate Planners, her lawyers Darrel Wickstrom, Leo Amighetti, Accounting department KPMG represented by Pam Prior, Kent, Emmet McGrath, Helen's secretary Steve Creighton, Francis Wong and others. May God bless them all for their time, efforts and their contribution. Two Lobo’s hit HALF CENTURY!!!
Rev. Fr. Walter Lobo and Rev. Fr. Patrick Lobo celebrated their Golden Jubilee of their Religious profession on the 26th of January in Carmel Hill. The Jubilarians presided over the Eucharistic celebration and Fr. Deep Fernandes preached an inspiring homily to match the celebration. We were glad that their two companions from Manjummel Province Fr. Francis Thannippilly and Fr. Augustine Poopadi could join their batchmates in thanking the Lord for 50 years of blessings! The spiritual celebration was followed by a variety cultural program systematically organized by the community of Carmel Hill, under the guidance of Fr. Prakash D’Cunha. The family members and guests of both the Golden celebrants enhanced the occasion by their joyful and warm presence. All credits to the ones who made their day. Congratulations to the Golden stars! You have been awesomely inspiring. The province ever remains grateful to you.

​​40 Hours of Adoration in Margao Monastery
40 hrs of continuous adoration at the Carmelite monastery Margao is a time of prayer and encounter with the Lord. This year as it is dedicated to the divine mercy the theme for the adoration was “Be merciful just as your Father is merciful” (Lk6:36). The Eucharistic adoration began on the 25th of February, with the solemn Eucharistic celebration and exposition of the Blessed Sacrament by Rev. Fr. Socorro Mendes the coordinator for the year of mercy for the diocese of Goa and Daman. Fr. Socorro invited the faithful to adore the Lord with one sole desire that is, ‘to become merciful as the heavenly Father.’ He also appreciated the Carmelite fathers for their generous contribution in the ministry of confessions in the arch diocese.

Inauguration and Blessing of Carmel Park View
‘Carmel Park View’ our new edifice at Vijayanagar was blessed and inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Charles Serrao, Provincial Superior on the 3rd of March, 2016 at 11:00 am. Rev. Fr. Archibald Gonsalves unveiled the plaque bearing the name of the donors Late Mr. James D’souza and Mr. Anil D’Costa. After the blessing of the new building Fr. Archibald Gonsalves presented a brief history of how the dream of ‘Carmel Park View’ was realized. He recalled the initial dialogue with Mr. Anil D'Costa and the intentions he had in mind when gifting us the property. He also acknowledged the roles of Fr. William Miranda (then Provincial Councillor) and Fr. Canute D'Souza (Prov. Procurator) who worked a lot in the beginning, especially in getting the property registered in the name of the Carmelites.

Infant Jesus Feast at Tapovana
History was created on Sunday, 31st of January 2016 when for the first time the feast of Infant Jesus was celebrated at Tapovana, Kushalnagar. It was preceded by the novena for 9 days. After the solemn Eucharist, presided over by the prior Fr. Wilfy Rodrigues during which he explained the origin and the development of the devotion and the need of the celebration of the feast, a small procession with the statue of the Infant Jesus was taken around the monastery. Thereafter the devotees were anointed with the holy oil of Infant Jesus. A sumptuous breakfast sponsored by a devotee, was served to more than 125 people gathered for the solemn feast. The calendars donated by the Infant Jesus shrine, Mangalore, were also distributed to all.

Seminar on Extraordinary Jubilee year of Mercy
On 21st February 2016, Dhyanavana International Institute of Spirituality, Mysore in association with CRI ,Mysore and and KRCBC (Karnataka Regional Commission for Formation) organized Seminar at Pushpashram Auditorium , Mysore. The seminar was on “Extra ordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy” on the theme ‘MERCIFUL LIKE THE FATHER’. Around 450 priests and religious attended this seminar belonging to 69 congregations from Mysore diocese. The seminar began at 9.00 AM with arrival and registration. At 9.15 am our Bishop of Mysore Rt.Rev. Thomas Vazhappily Inaugurated the seminar with a short reflection on the implication of mercy on our community life. Symbolically lightening of the lamp was done and then we proceeded to the sessions. All the speakers were highly knowledgeable and very informative in their presentations.

Good morning. Hope you had a wonderful week. Here I send you a comparative album of the photos clicked on February 24th in 2015 and on February 24th 2016. This comparison will certainly raise your eyebrows as to the work that is accomplished within one year from the moment we started cutting trees to the completion of the landscaping around the monastery. LITTLE FLOWER MONASTERY  ALBUM NO. 31 - First Visitors - Come and See
Dear Friends,
Here are the first visitors to our facility. When we met Archbishop Michael Miller CSB recently he said to us that a Diocesan Spirituality institute "Rosemary Heights" has been shut down due to maintenance costs as that building was old. He told us that there are many groups who would want to come and use our facility. Already a few groups have booked our facility after April this year. This is very encouraging to us. Well, we will make the best use of this opportunity to diffuse Carmelite Spirituality and to be a great service to the people of God and to the Archdiocese of Vancouver.

Grand celebration organized for Fr. Alwyn Sequeira ocd
Dear Friends,
We had a grand celebration organized for Fr. Alwyn Sequeira ocd. He arrived Vancouver on January 19th and successfully completed his procedures in getting all his initial documents for his stay in Canada. On February 16th he met Archbishop Michael Miller and the Vicar General Fr. Joseph Phung. Then he he was introduced to various administrative departments in the Diocesan Chancery. Then in the evening we had a grand welcoming celebration at St. Edmunds community with an introduction from Fr. Jeson Tellis and prayer by Bro. Joseph Giroux, sumptuous dinner arranged by Fr. Jerald D'Souza and Fr. Steny Mascarenhas. Fr. Rajesh Madtha offered him flower bouquet and welcomed him into Canadian Carmelite Community. After our wonderful meal we gave him a tearful sendoff praying that he will continue his stay at Carmel Hill with Bro. Joseph Giroux OCD.

Blessing of Belfry and Tabernacle in Kempton Park, South Africa
13th February was ndeed a great day for the parish of Our Lady of Loreto, Kempton Park as the archbishop of Johannesburg, Joseph Buti, presided over the Eucharist concelebrated by the parish priest, Fr. Peter and Arvin Tauro along with deacon Keith Mackenzie to bless the Belfry and the new tabernacle. During the Eucharistic celebration the new tabernacle and image of mother Mary were blessed and after the homily archbishop commissioned proclaimers, and catechism teachers and ushers of our parish. In his homily archbishop highlighted the importance of mercy towards our brothers and sisters which originates only being in the presence of God.

LITTLE FLOWER MONASTERY - ALBUM NO. 30
Dear Friends,
After a long pause here I send you the latest photo album of the Little Flower Monastery at Carmel Hill - Canada. You will notice that the landscaping work is complete and we have put two remote controlled automatic gates at the main entrance and at rare entrance of the monastery. It is interesting to note that we have had quite a good number of students and people who wanted to come and spend their time at Carmel Hill; we have tuned down their requests as we are yet to complete the work. We are waiting eagerly to get the completion certificate and occupancy certificate from FVRD who are eager to see the work is completed. We are grateful to them. We are yet to furnish the rooms. The construction inside the monastery is almost complete and the commercial kitchen work is on right now. A Generator for 24 hours uninterrupted power supply has been already installed in the last week of January. Enjoy the photos clicking the link below:

LITTLE FLOWER MONASTERY ALBUM NO. 29
Dear Friends,
Here I send you the missing album no. 29. This album photos clicked between January 15th and February 2nd (2016). The main focus in this album is installing the generator to the monastery for 24X7 power supply. There was a major shift of the methane gas tank from near the monastery to another location as the fire department wanted it to be away from the monastery. Enjoy the photos.

Feast of Don Bosco Celebrated
On 31st of January mother church celebrates the feast of St. Don Bosco, the Patron of the youth. The youth of St. Martin of Tours Parish, Mpandagindo celebrated their patron’s day in a simple manner but in a very meaningful way. The festive mass was presided over by the youth Chaplin of the Archdiocese of Songea, Rev. Fr. Stephano Muwonge and concelebrated by the Parish Priest, Fr. Roshan Pinto OCD and Fr. Raymond Santhanaz OCD. The youth raised our hearts and minds to God with a melodious choir and well organized meaningful liturgy. A few youth leaders from the Archdiocese were also present for the celebration.

THE OCDS IN UNISON - First Provincial Congress
October 30th to November 1st, 2015, will go down in the annals of the Karnataka-Goa Province, as we organized the First OCDS Provincial Congress at Pushpashrama, Mysore. The campus was beaming with 70 Secular Carmelites from 8 local communities around the Province (Mira Road – two communities, Mangalore, Margao, Mysore, Koteshwar, Vijayanagar and Kushalnagar). We had the esteemed presence of Fr. Alzinir Debastiani OCD, Delegate General of the Secular Carmel, who was making his maiden visit to India. The Congress was inaugurated on 30th October in the Pushpashrama hall.

CHRISTMAS 2015 ST. PETER’S CHURCH.
Each year in St. Peter’s Church, we begin our Christmas Celebrations with the Season of Advent. Advent begins four Sundays prior to Christmas Eve & Christmas Day which is a spiritual season of love, peace, hope & forgiveness with the lighting of a candle to reflect each emotion. It is a beautiful tradition with one of four candles lit each Sunday until all four candles are lit. During this special time we participate in anticipation the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Our priest, Father Ronnie encourages us to come each Sunday and all Sundays to prepare our hearts to receive Jesus and to give thanks to God our Heavenly Father for his Son.

THE ANNUAL FEAST OF THE INFANT JESUS SHRINE, PUSHPASHRAMA MYSORE
THE FEAST OF INFANT JESUS SHRINE, PUSHPASHRAMA MYSORE was celebrated on the 3rd of Jan 2016. The solemn mass was celebrated by Rt. Rev. Dr. Robert Miranda, the bishop of Gulbarga. After the solemn mass Theru procession with the Infant Jesus statue was done in the streets of Naidu Nagar. At noon more than 5000 devotees of Infant Jesus participated in the Annasantarpane (free meal). The feast was celebrated with a good number of priests, nuns and the devotees of Infant Jesus.

VESTITION AT PUNE CARMEL
We rejoice as another candidate has joined the Teresian fold. Miss Roschelle R. Martis was born in Kuwait and she grew up in Bombay. She is a graduate in Physics. Later she went on to pursue her Masters in Space Science and her Doctorate in Aerodynamics. In the midst of her studies, she experienced a longing to deepen her faith and started reading spiritual books and articles and through this got introduced to the Liturgy of the Hours and started praying it. But the desire for a deeper experience of God kept growing. Once on her visit to the Cloistered Carmel in Pune , to buy host for her parish, she expressed her desire to make a retreat to discern her vocation. She came inside as a candidate to come and see life in Carmel and heard God calling her to “go and sell everything” and come follow Him. After 3 months she came back and joined as a postulant.

HELEN CHUA'S 90TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS AT CARMEL HILL ON DECEMBER 28TH, 2015

The Empoli community had the pleasure of hosting double joyful events: The celebration of 50th anniversary of Religious Profession of Fr. Edwin Alleluia Dinizand the Christmas wing-ding celebration of all the Carmelites of Karnataka-Goa province working and studying in Italy. The anniversary celebration was held on the 27th of December. The solemn Mass presided over by Fr. Edwin was held at 18.30. Since it was a Sunday, the celebration was attended by a large number of parishioners. Fr. Sunil in his homily spoke about family life and the inspiring life of Fr. Edwin. After the Holy Eucharist there was a felicitation program together with the parishioners. Fr. Edwin thanked all, thanked for his religious life and God’s call. The private celebration continued in our renovated monastery with mouth-watering, sumptuous dinner.

Grand celebration of Rainbow of seven landmarks at Carmel Hills
Mangalore, December 21, 2015
Rev Fr Charles Serrao, Provincial Superior of the Order of Carmelites stressed on the importance of virtual media to reach out to more and more people in its efforts to spread the Word of God. He was presiding over the celebrations to mark the 7th anniversary of ‘Naman Ballok Jesu’, the popular Konkani monthly, organised last evening, 20th December 2015, at Carmel Hills, in the premises of Infant Jesus Shrine at Bikarnakatte. He said “Earlier the communication media was not widely used for proclaiming Word of God. However in the last 15 years there has been a concerted effort to use the media to spread the Word of God. The Carmelites have been carrying out this task devotedly and successfully in the last 7 years.”

Long awaited messiah is here!!!
The long awaited Messiah for South Africa arrived at last in the person of Fr. Arwin Tauro who was cordially welcomed by the people of South Africa. The country was boiling with heat without rain for a very long time. Since the arrival of Fr. Arwin till date the they are blessed with rain every day. We hope, the messiah who brought God's blessings in the form of rain may fulfill the dream of the Province of a retreat centre in Johannesburg Diocese. All the best and happy stay Fr. Arwin.

Opening of the Year of Mercy
St. Joseph's Church Actonville inaugurated the year of Mercy on Sunday, 13th of December. Meaningful liturgy was organized for the event by the parishioners. Divine Mercy picture is mounted at the entrance door so that everyone who looks at it may feel the abundance of God’s Mercy in their lives. During the mass appropriate symbols were brought in the procession. Twelve groups have been formed to do the acts of Mercy every month where all the parishioners have been encouraged to involve themselves to do the charitable acts in this Holy year. A banner has been put in the church depicting different acts of mercy. A call has been given to the parishioners to involve themselves more in the spiritual activities and they are encouraged to frequent the sacrament of confession to experience the mercy of God.

Jingling at the Eternal City
December 15, 2015 Tuesday was the day of jubilation, celebration, exultation, vociferation, jollification and felicitation as the International community of Scala celebrated the Christmas at the community level. The festivity commenced with the Eucharistic banquet presided by Fr Ephrem along with seventeen concelebrants who are the priest students of Santa Maria della Scala. Fr Michael in his homily unraveled the attitude of the shepherds and Mary; and inviting all to have an inner silence of Mary as we celebrate the mystery of Incarnation. The prayers of the faithful included ten intentions in different languages of Africa and India.

Inauguration of the newly renovated Monastery of Santa Maria a Ripa, Empoli, Italy
It is a great pleasure for us the Carmelites of Empoli community, Italy, to inform you that we have inaugurated the newly renovated Monastery on the 5thof December, 2015 at 17.00. His Eminence Card. Giuseppe Betori had kindly consented to be the Chief Guest at the inaugural ceremony. His Eminence arrived at 17.00;the Parish Priest Fr. Donath together with the community Fathers and the faithful welcomed him. After the short prayer in the Church, Fr. Edwin welcomed the Cardinal with his flowery, refined, elegant Italian. He also thanked the Cardinal on behalf of Karnataka-Goa Province for his financial help in the renovation of the Monastery. His Eminence in his address thanked the Carmelites and Fr. Donath, the present Parish Priest for the service in building the Parish community. He also thanked the parishioners for their continuous support and help in all the ventures of the parish.

TRIPLE CELEBRATION AT ST. EDMUND’S PARISH, VANCOUVER - CANADA
On Sunday, October 15, 2015 we had a triple celebration; we celebrated the Feast of
St. Edmund of Abingdon, our beloved Pastor’s (Fr. Jerald D’Souza) 25th Anniversary of his Religious Profession and his birthday. It started with the 11:00am Mass; Father Tim McCarthy and Father James Comey (retired priests from North Shore deanery) concelebrated with Father Jerry, who did not know they were coming, he said this was the nicest surprise. Our Grand Knight and an Honour Guard were there to process in with the priests and many of our altar servers; who were excited and honoured to be part of this celebration. At the Mass the children from Children’s Liturgy presented Father with a basket of cards and a beautiful little replica of our church which they painted. The church was full to capacity with parishioners and many lay Carmelites of the lower mainland to show their love and dedication to our beloved Pastor.

WONDERS AT KEMPTON PARK, SOUTH AFRICA
With an immense joy, the parish of Our Lady of Loreto had a triple celebration. On the one hand Holy Mother Church celebrated the feast of Christ - the universal King and so it was an apt time to unveil the Risen  Christ statue on the Cross. Then followed the blessing of a glorious Cross outside the Church and the newly constructed adoration chapel with the background picture of Jesus praying in the garden of Gethsemane. On this occasion the Vicar General Very Rev. Fr Duncan Tsoke from the Archdiocese of Johannesburg was the main celebrant and preacher along with the Parish Priest Fr. Peter Rebello and the Deacon. The concelebrated high mass was attended by 400 people parishioners. They were all overwhelmed by the work done by the Parish Priest - Fr Peter.

Plenary Council and Province Day
Plenary Council was held in Sadbhavana on the 17th of November, 2015. Br. Amyas Quadros and Br. Ashwath D’Souza invoked the blessings of God on the gathering. The Plenary Council was inaugurated by lighting the lamp. All the Superiors and Formators along with those who volunteered to be in the council participated in the triennial council. Rev. Fr. Provincial welcomed everyone for an active and fruitful participation. Fr. Archibald Gonsalves briefed the floor about the General Chapter that was held in the month of May. Then the agenda was taken up for the discussion. The council concluded on the next evening.

OCDS Profession at Mira Road
November 8th is a day to be written in the Golden letters in the history of St. Joseph’s Church Mira Road and especially in the books of OCDS. We were fortunate to have Very Rev. Fr. Alzinir Xavier Dabastiani, Delegate General for OCDS amidst us. He was on fraternal visit but by God’s grace it became memorable because 7 of our OCDS members made their definitive promises and 5 of them made temporal promises. The solemn Eucharistic mass was presided over by Very Rev. Fr. Charles Serrao, the Provincial Superior who also delivered a very thought provoking homily whereas Delegate General received the promises.

First Holy Communion at Kempton Park
The children received the Lord for the first time in their lives on the 25th of October, 2015 in Kempton Park parish. Rev. Fr. Peter Rebello assisted by Rev. Keith Mackenzie presided over the Solemn Eucharist attended by more than 800 people and instructed the children about the most Holy Eucharist in his short and sweet homily. Catechism coordinator Mrs. Ann Morrow and catechism teacher Mr. Mark Reginald were remembered in gratitude for their dedicated and selfless service in training the children.

Fifth book of Fr. Boniface D’Souza is released in South Africa
'Praying the Rosary with Mother Mary' the fifth book of Fr. Boniface D’Souza was released on Sunday, 8th of November. This book contains beautiful reflections on the mysteries of the Rosary. Other four books written by the author are, 'Speak to the Lord' a book for the basic catechism, prayers and Novenas. 'Be Sealed with the Holy Spirit' a book for the catechism of the Sacrament of Confirmation. 'Learning my Faith' a book for the Sacrament of First Holy Communion. 'A Walk to Calvary' reflections on the stations of the Cross. All these books have gained much appreciation from the Archbishop and the people. First three books are used for the catechism in the Archdiocese of Johannesburg.

INSTALLATION OF THE NEW PASTOR AT ST. ANTHONY OF PADUA CHURCH - AGASSIZ - BC CANADA
The installation of Rev. Fr. Steny Mascarenhas at St. Anthony of Padua parish as Pastor was celebrated on November 1st, All Saints Day. Most Rev. J. Michael Miller CSB, Archbishop of Vancouver presided over the celebration and Rev. Fr. Rudolf V. D'Souza concelebrated. The Eucharistic Celebration was solemn with the Knights of Columbus marching towards the Altar and saluting the celebrants. During the Homily Archbishop congratulated Fr. Steny and highlighted his duties towards his flock and requested him to tend his flock with care and concern. After the Homily the solemn installation ceremony was conducted introducing the new Pastor to the pulpit, confessional, to Baptismal font, to the entrance of the Church, to the Altar, to the Tabernacle and then to his seat. All this happened while Archbishop recited the prayers of installation. During the felicitation program in the Church itself two sisters were felicitated: Rev. Sr. Kitty and Sr. Theresa of the Little Flower Congregation as they were very actively involved in their apostolate among the Native Indians. Rev. Fr. Rudolf encouraged Fr. Steny to bring unity and harmony among the parishioners and to sow the seed of God's Love among them and he cracked a joke indicating that at the evening of our life we will be asked to spell a password to enter heaven and that password should be "Love" and not any other complicated word like "Czechoslovakia". After the mass Fr. Steny invited 170 parishioners and guests to a great sumptuous meal. The whole ceremony and celebration ended at 1 pm which had begun at 10.30 am. We congratulate Fr. Steny for being the third Carmelite Pastor in Vancouver Archdiocese.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION OF FR. JERALD D'SOUZA OCD AT ST. EDMUND'S COMMUNITY ON NOVEMBER 5TH at 7 pm
The Grand Birthday celebration of Fr. Jerald D'Souza was held at St. Edmund's Community North Vancouver at 7 pm on November 5th. Fr. Steny Mascarenhas from Agazziz, Bro. Joseph Giroux from Little Flower Monastery Deroche and Guardian Angels Community members Fr. Rudy and Fr. Rajesh were present. The Celebration began by turning Water into Wine and the sumptuous banquet that was prepared by Fr. Jerry's friends from his parish was ready on table. Fr. Rajesh praised Fr. Jerry in 5 words of wisdom: J that stands for JOY; E stands for ENCOURAGEMENT; R stands for RESPECT and R stands for REJOICING and finally Y stands for YEARNING FOR GOD. Fr. Rajesh said he is a perfect Carmelite who combines in himself both Carmelite Spirituality and Spirit of Christ himself in his life. Bro. Joseph was the official photographer. Gifts were lavished on Fr. Jerry and balloons smashed during this joyous occasion.

V CENTENARY OF THE BIRTH OF ST. TERESA OF JESUS : WESTERN CANADA OCDS
As Carmelites worldwide celebrated the V Centenary of the Birth of St. Teresa of Jesus, the Carmelites of Western Canada OCDS culminated the year long festivities on October 17, 2015 at St. Edmund’s Parish, North Vancouver, BC with a lively celebration attended by close to 200 of the faithful who came to give honor to our Holy Mother, Master of Prayer and Doctor of the Church. The day commenced with Mass officiated by former Provincial, Fr. Archibald Gonsalves and concelebrated by Fr. Rudolf D’Souza, Fr. Manoj Braganza, Fr. Jerald D’Souza, Fr. Mario Fernandes, Fr. Victor Fernandes, Fr. Godwin Pinto and Fr. Jaison Tellis.

October 31, 2015, the eve of All Saints Day, was a perfect day for the Ceremonies of our Lower Mainland Communities which took place at St. Edmund’s Parish, North Vancouver, BC In spite of the pouring rain, more than fifty OCDS members together with family and friends witnessed the investiture and profession of the candidates.
The Ceremonies were officiated by Provincial Delegate Fr. Jerald D’Souza OCD. Four candidates were clothed during the Morning Prayer, followed by a solemn Eucharistic Celebration during which two candidates made their First Promise and six candidates made their Definitive Promise.

DHYANAVANA DAY
Dhyanavana was full of joy and cheer as the day had dawned to celebrate “Dhyanavana Day” – the Feast of ST. EDITH STEIN, our Patroness on October 10, 2015. The Director, Rev. Fr. Dominic Vas OCD, welcomed one and all who amidst their busy schedules, found time to join in our joy and celebration… The evening was made colorful with a cultural programme consisting of various cultural dances, skits and drama very well performed by the student sisters. Fr. Leslie Moras, Chief Guest for the programme addressed the gathering which left the listeners spell bound especially student sisters who found encouragement and inspiration from his fluent and experiential expressions. The programme concluded with a meaningful vote of thanks followed by a delicious fellowship meal.

Fr. Charles Serrao begins Pastoral Visitation in Canada
On October 6th 2015 Rev. Fr. Charles Serrao OCD (Provincial) landed at YVR International Airport Vancouver at 2.10 pm. Fr. Rudolf escorted him to Guardian Angels Rectory. After a short time of rest at 6.30 pm Fr. Jerald D’Souza superior at St. Edmund’s community arranged a great dinner. During this short meeting over this delicious dinner Fr. Charles Serrao shared some important details of the recent concluding St. Teresa’s V Birth Centenary celebrations held in Vailankanni. Fr. Provincial left for Prince George on October 7th early morning for pastoral visitation and he will be visiting Kilowna and Calgary before he lands back in Vancouver on October 11th.

Guardian Angels Parish feast : Canada
Guardian Angels Parish feast was celebrated on October 3rd in the Millennium Hall of the parish. The celebration included a Magic Show, a Concert by Chris and Galangar and a wonderful singing by Rachel Dilman. Dinner was served and Frs. Rudolf and Rajesh welcomed the guests and thanked them for their support, friendship and their presence. We specially thank the organizers of this event: Rizalina Geronimo, Jenniefer Po, Cecil Boziac, Terri O’Niel, Cathy Danford and other volunteers who made this event a great success.

Feast of our Patroness great St. Teresa of Avila @ Sadbhavana
We, the community of Sadbhavana were overjoyed to celebrate the feast of our Patroness great St. Teresa of Avila on Monday, 5th of October. We were elated to sing the praises of God along with the Carmelite Family of Bengaluru, Carmel Kutam, Choir Members of Sadbhavana and all everloving neighbouring priests and religious. It was a meaningful and fraternal get together. Rev. Fr. Joe Mathias SJ, Rector of St. Peter’s Pontifical Seminary, Malleshwaram, Bengaluru presided over the solemn Eucharist and preached an inspiring homily. After the Eucharist Rev. Fr. Charles Serrao, Provincial Superior expressed the sentiments of gratitude to one and all. Rev. Fr. Silvestre D’Souza, Councilor in charge of Spirituality was felicitated as he completed 25 years of Religious Life. After the Mass all partook in the sumptuous monastic meal prepared by a monk (Fr. Jerald Dsouza, Superior).

Solemn Profession and Diaconate celebrations in Tanzania
The Karnataka-Goa Province along with the Vicariate of Tanzania rejoices in the dual celebration of the Solemn Profession and Diaconate of Bros. Nelson Osmond Vaz and Raymond Sangu. These two young men committed themselves perpetually through the evangelical vows on the 25th of September, 2015at Kihonda, Tanzania. The Eucharistic Celebration was presided over by the Regional Vicar Rev. Fr. Marlon Rodrigues. It was a long-awaited dream in the life of these brothers as they made their perpetual commitment in the hands of the Regional Vicar.

Pushpashrama the institute of Philosophy and religion, situated at R. S Naidu Nagar, Mysuru, celebrated on the 27th of September its Golden Jubilee.
The thanksgiving mass was offered at 10.30 A.M. presided over by Most Rev. Dr. Thomas Vazapilly the Bishop of Mysore and concelebrated by 78 priests. Thereafter celebration was held at the institute auditorium. The guest of honour was Rev. Fr. Saverio Cannistra the Superior General of the Discalced Carmelite Order. The stage was shared with him by another two dignitaries namely Rev. Fr. Johannes Gorantla the Definitor General and Rev. Fr. Charles Serrao the Provincial. The students of Flos Carmeli School invoked the presence of God through prayer dance. Rev. Fr. Alfred Menezes the Rector, welcomed the guests.

The Monthi fest celebration commenced with a procession from the Opus Spiritus Sancti convent to the Infant Mary church, Bajjodi at 8 Am. All the faithful, especially children took part in it with great enthusiasm having basketful of flowers to be offered to Mamma Mary. Rev. Fr. Monthi Fest at Sadbhavana
Monthi Fest was celebrated with all solemnity and joy in Sadbhavana on Sunday, 6th of September. All the faithful gathered at the entrance to honor the Infant Mary with the colorful flower brought by little children accompanied by the melodious and traditional hymn “Mariyek Hogolsiyam.” New corns were blessed and in procession the devotees turned their steps towards the altar of God. Rev. Fr. Charles Serrao, the provincial superior presided over the Eucharistic celebration while Fr. Lawrence D’Cunha preached a meaningful homily. New corns were distributed by the main celebrant and the children were offered sweet sugar canes after the mass.

Bajjodians Rock in Fancy Dress Competition
August 16, 2015, Bajjodians for the first time participated in the fancy dress competition organized by Don Bosco Natak Sabha and to the amazement of all Bajjodians gave a fantastic performance under the leadership of Mr. Reethan Cutinha and Mr. Deepak Albuquerque. The children bellow-15 category bagged prizes in solo, duet and group and obtained overall first place. In the above-15 category Bajjodians secured the second place.

INTER - PARISH KONKANI SINGING COMPETITION  AT BAJJODI
August 16, 2015
The ICYM Youth of Bajjodi unit in collaboration with ICYM City Deanery had organized Inter-Parish Singing Comepetition on the eve of “Konkani Manyatha Divas”. Fr. George Crasta, City Varado ICYM Director was the Guest for the inaugural programme. Fr. Shabas Crasta, the parish priest of Infant Mary Church, Fr. Jocy, ICYM Director Bajjodi unit, Mr. Clanute Lobo, President and Mr. Rainish D’ Souza, Secretory of Bajjodi ICYM unit were also present. There was active participation from different parishes. Mr. Lancy Moras and Mr. Maxim Pereira were the judges for the event. Mr. Godwin Rasquinha, the main sponsor of the event felicitated the winners. Ms. Jonita and Mr. David compeered the programme.

“Para Vos Nací” @ Ávila
The international centenary celebration of St. Teresa was held on August 10th – 14th, 2015 at the birth place of St. Teresa, Avila, Spain. The celebration was attended by the fathers, brothers, sisters and the laity belonging to various Carmelite families of the world. The groups were divided on the basis of language and were accommodated at the various centers in Avila. The Karnataka-Goa Province was represented by Frs. Joseph D’Souza (Sr), Donath Rebeiro, Vinod Lobo, and Ajay Nazareth.

July 26 – Carmelite Family get together Mysore
Carmelite family get together was held on 26 July in Flos carmeli premises organized by Congregation of Teresian Sisters (CTS). Meeting started with Eucharistic celebration at 10:00 am. Rev Fr. George Santhmayor was the chief celebrant of the festive thanksgiving mass. He preached the word of God and inspired the congregation to live in the spirit of Carmel, by meditating and practicing the message of Pope Francis 'to look to the past with gratitude, to live the present with passion and work for the future with hope.' After the Eucharistic celebration Pushpashrama community organized the group dynamics and then the group discussed about future assignments led by under the able leadership of Rev. Fr. Dominic vas followed by a fellowship meal.

B'day of Fr. Rudy celebrated
On Monday July 27, 2015, all the friars around Vancouver came together at St. Edmund’s to celebrate the birthday of beloved Fr. Rudolf D’Souza, Regional Superior of Canada Region. Fr. Jerald D’Souza organized the event and wished him well. He also thanked Fr. Rudy for his initiative in the Canada Region. He reminded friars about Fr. Rudy’s hard, dedicated and committed work at Carmel Hill. Fr. Rudy is a blessing to the Region and in turn he is a blessing to the Province, a blessing to all the Carmelite friars and Mother Church, he exclaimed. Fr. Steny Mascarenhas, Pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Agassiz prepared a delicious meal. Fr. Rajesh Madtha, chaplain of St. Paul’s Hospital, wished Fr. Mount Carmel Feast at Carmel Hill, Mangaluru
The Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel was celebrated with great solemnity and devotion at Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte – Manlore on Sunday, 19th July, 2015. The celebration began with the Eucharist presided over by Rev. Fr. Victor Machado, Parish Priest of Holy Cross Church, Kulshekar - Mangalore. The Celebrant in his homily highlighted the significance of the feast and the devotion of the Scapular: “Carmel which is the most beautiful mountain in Israel is the origin of the Carmelite Order and Mary whose feast we celebrate today, is the patroness of this Order dedicated to prayer, contemplation and apostolic actitivity.” He invited the devotees to adorn themselves with Mary’s virtues to be beautiful.

First Profession in Tanzanina
The Discalced Carmelite Vicariate of Tanzania rejoices to have three newly professed brothers on the 20th of July 2015 to mark the feast of Prophet Elias the inspirer of the Carmelite Order. The professed brothers had completed a year of intensive spiritual preparation in the novitiate in Malawi. Rev. Fr. Marlon Rodrigues OCD, the Regional Vicar presided over the mass and received the vows of the three novices. Six brothers also renewed their temporal vows for another year. Twelve Carmelite priests concelebrated the Eucharist which was witnessed by the parents, relatives and a good number of the religious brothers and sisters from the neighborhood.

The titular feast of Our Lady of Mt Carmel was celebrated in Carmel Ashram at Katkere, Koteshwar on 18th July, 2015 at 5.00 pm. The main celebrant of the solemn Eucharistic celebration was Rev. Fr. Joe Tauro OCD, rector of St Joseph Monastery, Bikarnakatte. Priests from the deanery and a few Carmelite friars concelebrated in the thanksgiving mass. In the homily the main celebrant highlighted the importance of the Mt. Carmel Feast and invited the devotees to be be clothed in the virtues of Mother Mary. At the end of the Eucharistic celebration Fr. Felix Moras OCD Superior of Carmel Ashram expressed his sentiments of gratitude to all those who played the role in the festive celebration.

FEAST OF OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL IN ST. EDMUND'S PARISH
In preparation for the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, St. Edmund's Church held a Novena with Masses celebrated by OCD friar, Fr. Jerald D'Souza. On July 16 at 7pm, the Feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Mass was celebrated at St. Edmund's Church. Parishioners, devotees of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel along with OCDS members, Religious and Secular members filled the church. A beautiful flower arrangement surrounded the statue of Our Lady of Mount Carmel which stood prominently in front of the altar. Bishop David Monroe of Kamloops was the homilist and the main celebrant having especially made the five-hour drive to North Vancouver. OCD friars Fr. Rudolf D'Souza, Fr. Jerald D'Souza, Fr. Steny Mascarenhas, Fr. Rajesh Madtha together with Msgr. Gregory Smith, Fr. James Comey and Fr. Paul Goo, priests of the North Shore Deanery, concelebrated.

Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Celebrated in Sadbhavana, Bengaluru
Carmelite Fathers of Sadbhavana along with the vibrant Carmel Kutam celebrated the Feast of our Lady of Mount Carmel on the 19th of July, 2015 in the Sadbhavana premises. The celebration began with the solemn procession of our Lady of Mount Carmel in a beautifully decorated chariot on Dr. Rajkumar Road. Nearly four hundred people participated in the pious procession reciting the Holy Rosary and singing Marian hymns after V. Rev. Fr. Charles Serrao, Provincial Superior of Carmelites of Karnatak-Goa province blessed and incensed the Chariot. After the solemn procession the statue was installed in the chapel for veneration by Rev. Fr. Archibald Gonsalves who presided over the festive Eucharist.

Secular Carmel (OCDS) started in Tapovana
Tapovana unit of Secular Carmel (OCDS) at Kushalnagar was started in August 2014 under the initiative of Fr.Wilfred Rodrigues and the collaboration of the Novitiate Community. After almost a year's contact 16 lay faithful were received into the Novitiate with the vestition during the mass on 5th July 2015 by Fr. Charles Serrao, the Provincial who was on pastoral visitation of the community of Tapovana. Fr. Mari Joseph working in South Africa who was on vacation and came to spend 2-3 days in Tapovana preached an excellent homily with his inimitable style urging the faithful to see Jesus like the shepherds, to experience Jesus even on Calvary like Mother Mary, to touch Jesus like the woman suffering from hemorrhage and take Jesus home like Jairus. Breakfast was served to all after the Mass.

Patroness honored @ Empoli
July 16, 2015 – is an auspicious day to the entire Carmelite family as they celebrated the solemnity of Our Lady of Mount Carmel who is the Sister, Mother and Patroness of the Carmelite Order. On this propitious day, the Carmelites of Santa Maria, Empoli along with the parishioners, friends, near and dear ones celebrated the feast with hearts full of joy and thanksgiving. The festivity commenced at 6-00pm with the Holy Rosary, Eucharistic Adoration, Solemn Vespers followed by solemn festive mass celebrated by Fr Manoj Braganza. Fr Donath in his homily highlighted the protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary and invited all to follow Jesus who is the master and Lord of our life.

Inauguration of 19th Dhyanavana Spirituality Diploma Course
19th Dhyanavana Spirituality Diploma Course was inaugurated on 5th of July, 2015. This gracious event was officiated by Rev. Fr. George Santhmayor OCD, Vicor Provincial of Karnataka Goa Province and Director of Dhyana Sadhana. Fr. George celebrated the inaugural Holy Eucharist and Rev. Fr. Alfred Menezes, Rector of Pushpashrama Philosophy College preached the word of God. He stressed on ascending, horizontal and descending dimensions of our spiritual growth. Rev. Fr. Dominic Vas, Director of Dhyanavana welcomed and thanked the gathering for their continuous support and encouragement to the institute. After the Eucharistic celebration all the invitees and the participants partook in the fellowship meal.

FATHER STENY'S SURPRISE FAREWELL BBQ
On Canada Day, July 1st we surprised Father Steny with a Farewell BBQ. Jady took him out for the day, so we could get things setup. They returned around 5:30pm and we all said 'SURPRISE". There were CWL ladies, Knights of Columbus and parishioners who are actively involved in parish. We had good food & good time & good drinks made by Father Jerry.

FAREWELL DINNER FOR FATHER STENY
On the evening of Saturday, June 20th, St. Edmund's Parish of North  Vancouver, BC gathered to bid Father Steny Mascarenhas a fond farewell and best wishes as he becomes the Pastor of St. Anthony of Padua, Agassiz, BC. A delicious dinner and wonderful music was enjoyed by all. The Parish presented a Chalice and Paten to Father Steny in thanks for his ministry at St. Edmund's. Even though his tenure as Assistant Pastor was less than a year, he was involved in many aspects of the Parish among which were establishing a Youth Group, enlarging the number of Servers as well as taking them on a tour of Holy Locations on the Lower Mainland. Added to this, he and several Parishioners planted out a beautiful rose garden. Our prayers go with Father Steny as he takes this next step on his journey.

Altar Servers Day
At 7:30am on June 13th, 27 Altar Servers attended Mass celebrated by Father Steny Mascarenhas, (at that time, Assistant Pastor of St. Edmund's Parish, North Vancouver, BC). Father Steny and the group then boarded a bus and headed towards Westminster Abbey, Mission, BC. Members of the Benedictine Community lead the Servers on a tour of the beautiful buildings and grounds of the Monastery. Abbot John Braganza, OSB spoke to the group about the importance of reverence when serving in Church.

21st of June was the happiest day for St. Joseph's Church Mira Road as five of the newly ordained priests celebrated their first masses in the parish for the first time. Rev. Fr. Pawan Saldanha who is presently working as the secretary to the bishop of Gulbarga presided over the solemn eucharist while Fr. Noel D'Cunha who is presently serving as the Rector of the minor seminary in Gujrath broke the Word of God. Rev. Fr. Augustine Robert, presently rendering his services in Fatima Retreat Centre, Fr. Antony Stephen, presently working in Dhyanashrama, Vasai, and Fr. Arun Bennis, serving in our mission station at Gulbarga concelebrated.

The academic year 2015-16 was inaugurated on the 15th of June at Pushpashrama institute of philosophy and religion.Rev. Fr. George Santhumayor OCD was the main celebrant for the inaugural holy Eucharist. Fr. Sunil Rodrigues, OCD preached the homily highlighting the importance of our call in the Church and the free and the serious response we need to give to our call.  The holy Mass was followed by the Lectio brevis. Inauguration of Weekend Course at Emmaus
The second batch of theory and practice of counselling course was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Alex Braganza, Superior of Carmelite Seminary, Mapusa, Goa on 6th June 2015. This course is attended by 30 plus students. This course will run on 12 Saturdays. This course includes: Major theories of couselling (Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural, Humanistic and Eastern), application of the theory to a case, micro skills of counselling with practical demonstrations. The third batch will begin in September 2015.

We the Discalced Carmelites of the K.G. Province delight in the person of Rev Fr Wilfred Pais who successfully defended his Doctoral thesis on the theme “Women Discipleship: A Model for the Disciples in the Gospel of Mark”. The defense was held at Pontifical University of Urbaniana, Rome at 3-00pm on June 10, 2015. The doctoral thesis of Fr Wilfred was guided by Prof. Crimella Matteo, a renowned biblical scholar and a professor at the Urbaniana. The panel of examiners comprised of professors Crimella Matteo, Gieniusz Andrzej and Bazzi Carlo. The panel members expressed their whole hearted appreciation for the systematic and comprehensive presentation and development of the thesis.

Solemn Profession at Infant Jesus Shrine, Mangaluru
The Carmelites had more than one reason to thank God and celebrate on 29th May, 2015. It was a day that saw two brothers pronouncing their religious vows for life at the Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte - Mangaluru. The rite of Solemn Profession guided by Fr. Prakash D’Cunha OCD, were beautifully integrated in the Eucharistic celebration. Rev. Fr. George Santhumayor the Vicar Provincial, exhorted the candidates to be ‘men of God and men for God’, ‘men of integrity’ and ‘men of service.’ The highlight of the ceremony was making the religious profession in the hands of the Provincial Superior of the Carmelites, Rev. Fr. Charles Serrao OCD.

Report on the Celebrations held in Mangalore of Canonization of Blessed Mary of Jesus Crucified
Certainly it was the power and presence of Blessed Mary of Jesus Crucified (Mary Baouardy) that gave the inspiration to the Sisters of the Sacred Heart Monastery Cloistered Carmel Kankanady, Mangalore to envisage a celebration locally, to mark the great event of her Canonization by Pope Francis on May 17, 2015.  The events planned and details worked out were successfully accomplished.. All praise and thanks to God through the intercession of St. Mary of Jesus Crucified.

Bazinga - Summuer camp at Mira Road
St. Joseph Youth Association of Mira Road Parish organized BAZINGA (Summer Camp) for Children up to 10th Standard. Nearly 250 Children participated in Bazinga. It was a fun filled event with Games, Dance, Treasure Hunt, Various Work shops and Meditation. Bazinga ended with the 'Grand Finale' on the 7th of May which included an exhibition of talents of children. Parents were present in big number to see their children perform on the stage.

The academic year of the Mount Carmel school Ramnagar, Belgaum was inaugurated today. Rev. Fr. Ajith Rodrigues was the chief guest of honour. Rev. Fr. RECTOR CELEBRATES IL SUO COMPLEANNO
May 25, 2015 Monday was an auspicious day in the historical monastery of Santa Maria Della Scala, Rome as the rector Rev Fr Ivan Pinto celebrated his birthday. The whole day was considered as the Rector’s day as he received birthday greetings from the members of the community and from various corners of the world his near and dear ones. The thanksgiving Eucharistic celebration was held at 6-30pm presided over by the birthday baby and concelebrated by the members of the community. Fr Wilfred Pais during the introduction invited the entire assembly to pray for the intention of Fr Ivan and gave a meaningful reflection on the day’s gospel and gave a clarion call to follow the Lord with the spirit of detachment and mortification. At the close of the mass, the birthday boy expressed the words of gratitude to all the members and faithful who attended the mass.

First Profession at Bangalore Carmel
The Carmelite Family rejoices as Sr. Arokya Mary of Jesus made her first profession in Bangalore Carmel on the 22nd of May, 2015. The Eucharistic celebration commensed at 7:00 am. Rev. Fr. Silvestre D’Souza presided over the Holy Mass and Rev. Fr. Raj Ratnam, who inspired Sr. Arokya to join the Carmel, aged 82 years, who had come all the way from Pondichery preached a meaningful homily. Frs. Christu Raj, Sandeep Goveas and Richard Menezes concelebrated.

THE “INTERNATIONAL PILGRIM VIRGIN STATUE OF OUR LADY OF FATIMA”
On May 9th, 2015, the precious miraculous statue of our lady was brought to St. Peter’s Church in Mackenzie, BC. Carrying lit candles and singing “Gentle Woman” we welcomed our Mother into our parish walking with her in procession. As we approached our pews our Lady was secured near the altar surrounded by flowers, candles and a large beautiful Rosary. Father Ronald led us in a commitment prayer to our Mother. This was followed by the Fatima Message (see below) and history given by Patrick Sabat, our Lady’s custodian.

On 1st May 2015 (Miss Pooja Khandekar) Sister Pooja of the Holy Trinity, made her 1st Profession in the hands of Mother Teresa Margaret of the Sacred Heart, in the Carmel of God the Father, Ramwadi, Pune, Maharashtra. Fr. Joy Francis OCD presided over the Solemn Mass along with Fr. Denzil Veigas OCD, Fr. Pradeep Pinto OCD and Fr. Conrad Noronha SJ. The Parents of Sr. Pooja were present with her brother. The Mass was well attended by Jesuits from De Nobili and the people of Ramwadi along with Carmelite Missionary Sisters. Fr. Joy in his homily highlighted the importance of the three vows in consecrated life.

FOUR WOMEN RELIGIOUS DECLARED SAINTS
May 17, 2015 on the feast of the Ascension of the Lord, the Holy Father Pope Francis solemnly proclaimed four women religious who lived during the 19th century as Saints for their life of holiness in following Jesus Christ. They are St Marie Alphonsine from Jerusalem; St Mary of Jesus Crucified from Palestine; St Jeanne Emilie de Villeneuve was a French nun and foundress; and St Maria Cristina of the Immaculate Conception from Italy.

Obituary of Sr. Rose Mary of St. Joseph

The silent hidden life of Sr. RoseMary of St. Joseph has many shades of beauty not only in God's eyes but in the eyes of all of us. Born to Mr and Mrs.Joseph and Mary Kaniamparambil on 6th March 1919, she was the eldest in a family of five sisters and 3 brothers in Alleppy, Kerala. After her graduation in Trichy she taught and then at the age of 26 yrs she joined the Carmel of Bangalore. What attracted her to Carmel was her desire to give herself totally to God. She joined a Carmel where she could be away from her family.

Once More!!! Rev. Fr. Saverio Cannistra
This is the expression of the Carmelite Order as they reelect Very Rev. Fr. Saverio Cannistra as the Superior General of the Carmelites for the next six years. He was elected as General in April 2009 in Fatima and now after the completion of six years he has been given the steering wheel again for another term. This year the General Chapter is being held at Avila, Spain, the birth place of St. Teresa of Avila, whose fifth birth centenary is being celebrated this year.

The Carmelite Family of India (CFI), organized a National Seminar on St. Teresa to mark her 5th Birth Centenary, at AtmaDarshan, Aluva, Kerala, from 6-8 February 2015. The initiative and leadership of Frs. Wilfred Rodrigues OCD and Wilson Srampikal OCD coupled with the generous services of the Executive Committee Members of CFI bore fruit in “Journeying with St. Teresa” for three days, each day taking up a relevant aspect of her life viz: (1) Word of God and St. Teresa, (2) Minor Works of St. Teresa and Teresian Communities and (3) Teresian Spirituality in the Indian Context.

Ordination of Fr. Sandeep Goveas
Rev. Fr. Sandeep Goveas, the Fourth Priest this year for the Karnataka Goa province, the fifth carmelite from the Diocese of Chikmagalur and first from St. Antony’ Church, Mudigere was ordained on the 16th of April by Most. Rev. Thomasappa Antony Swamy, Bishop of Chikmagalur. Rev. Fr. Richard Menezes conducted the liturgy. After the ordination ceremony there was a felicitation programme to wish the new priest in the order of Melchizedek. Rev. Fr. Richard Menezes was the master of the ceremony. Rev. Fr. Joy Francis raised the toast and wished Fr. Sandeep good health and happiness n the life to come.

Ordination of Fr. Antony Stephen
It was indeed a day to rejoice as Dn. Antony Stephen, first Carmelite Priest from the Mt. Carmel Church, Mariapura, Bangalore was ordained on the 15th of April. The first flower from the garden of Mt. Carmel Church to the Order of Carmel was fittingly offered as the whole village joined together in the ordination ceremony. Most Rev. Robert Miranda, Bishop of Gulbarga raised our deacon to the order of Melchizedek. Rev. Fr. Deepak Thomas conducted the liturgy meaningfully. After the Eucharist a short felicitation programme was organized. Rev. Fr. Richard Menezes compeered the programme and introduced the Newly Ordained to the gathering.

Five Carmelites were Ordained at Infant Jesus Shrine, Mangaluru
April 17th of 2015, was a special day in the life of the Karnataka-Goa Province of Discalced Carmelites, as five more members were added to the Priestly tribe! The Solemn Mass with the rich ceremony of Priestly Ordination began at 03.30 pm as around 85 Priests processed in the beautiful Infant Jesus Shrine at Bikarnatakatte, Mangalore. Most Rev. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore was the ordaining minister.

The five new priests are:
Rev. Fr. Kevin Felix Fernandes, from St. Joseph the Worker Church, Vamanjoor.
Rev. Fr. Arun Bennis, from St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Nirkan.
Rev. Fr. Prakash Lancy Rebello from St. Antony’s Church, Bannur – Puttur.
Rev. Fr. Joseph Cyril D’Souza (Jocy Siddakatte) from St. Patrick’s Church, Siddakatte and

Holy Week Celebrations

Easter celebration in our community at Maria Della Scala, Rome.
As the whole Church rejoices in the great feast of the Easter, the Friars of the Karnataka – Goa and the Vicariate of Tanzania working and studying in Italy, came together on 8th of April to show their fraternal love and to partake in the joy of the Risen Lord in our community at Maria Della Scala, Rome. The gathering began with the solemn concelebrated mass presided over by Fr. Wilfred Pais. Fr. Lancy Lewis broke the word highlighting the Emmaus experience of the Apostles. The community prepared a sumptuous meal. It was also an occasion to celebrate the birthday of Fr. Edwin Denis. Fr. Ivan Pinto the superior of the community thanked each and everyone present.

Maundy Thursday: Sadbhavana
Maundy Thursday was celebrated meaningfully in Sadbhavana. Rev. Fr. Charles Serrao presided over the Festive Mass and Rev. Fr. Richard Menezes preached the homily. Rev. Fr. Provincial washed the feet of the disciples to commemorate the greatest act of humility performed by our Lord Jesus Christ. After the communion Fr. Richard conducted the adoration. Frs. Sivestre D’Souza, Canute D’Souza and Arun Lobo concelebrated. Good number of people participated in the liturgy.

Palm Sunday was celebrated in all its solemnity in Sadbhavana. Rev. Fr. Richard Menezes presided over the liturgy. Rev. Fr. Ivan D’Souza preached the suitable homily. Frs. Clifford D'Souza presided over the profession ceremony and preached an inspiring homily on the life of St. Joseph whereas Fr. Roshan D'Souza OCD presided over the Solemn Euchristic Celebration. Fr.Richard Menezes concelebrated. The parents of Sagaya Mary were present along with a few neighbours of Cloister Carmel. It was a meaningful liturgical celebation with a meaningful litrugy condcted by the cloister sisters. After the mass all the invitees broke the fast with the tasty breakfast provided by the sister in honour of Sr. Sagaya. Congratulation Sr. Sagaya. A New Master in Philosophy!!!
We are extremely happy to inform you that, on 16th of March, Fr. Vijay D’Costa OCD successfully defended his thesis titled "The Sense of the Levinasian Subject and its Relevance Today" as a requirements for the Licentiate in Philosophy. (Emmanuel Levinas is one of the most influential 20th century post modern French phenomenologist and ethical thinker.) His defense session was moderated by Prof. Sidney Mascarenhas OFM, a well know Levinasian scholar in India, who was also his second guide together with Prof. Mathew Chandrankunnel from DVK who guided him to draft his thesis and two others readers. Foundation Stone laid for Mount Carmel School at Shivamogga
The blessing and the foundation stone laying ceremony of the New Mount Carmel school was held at Shivamogga on March 8th at 12pm. Frs. Jerome Moras and Ivan D'souza organized the prayer service at the construction site. Rev. Fr. Veeresh V. Moras, Director of Shimoga Multipurpose Social Service Society(SMSSS) blessed the foundation stone for the new Mount Carmel School.  After the blessing Fr. Jerome Moras proposed the vote of thanks. Junior Priests' Meet 2015
The meeting of Junior Priests of Karnataka- Goa province was held in Stella Maris, Honnavar from 2nd to 6th of February, 2015. Twenty four Priests and Br. Malvino participated in this meet. Fr. George Santhumayor, Councilor in-charge of On-going formation presided over the inaugural mass and preached an encouraging homily. Fr. Gregory D’Souza enlightened the participants on the theme, ‘Carmelites Spiritual direction’ by his experiential and wisdom filled input sessions. On the 5th of February, a mass for the people was organized in St. Sebastian’s Parish, Matadakeri where all the priests concelebrated in the Eucharist and prayed for the people.

Ordination of Fr. Noel D’Cunha
Dn. Noel D’Cunha was ordained by Most. Rev. Philip Neri Ferrao, the archbishop of Goa and Daman on the 11th of February in the Carmelite Monastery, Acquem, Margao. Frs. Ivo Dias and Mark Furtado organized the meaningful liturgy. After the Mass Fr. Archibald Gonsalves, the superior of the Monastery raised the toast and wished the newly ordained all success in his priestly ministry. Fr. Provincial expressed his joy of having another young and bubbling priest for the province and congratulated Fr. Noel. On this graceful occasion he thanked his parents and honored the benefactors who helped Fr. Noel to ascend the altar of God. Fr. Noel thanked everyone who was instrumental in making him a priest in the order of Melchizedek.

Infant Jesus Shrine organized Karmel Dongrar Somyacho Pashav - a spiritual program on first Sunday of Lent i.e., 21st Feb, 2015. It began at 5 pm with a meaningful and creative Way of the Cross held in the open air. Faithfull carried the Cross and meditated on the timely reflections on the Stations of the Cross conducted by Rev Fr. Stephen Pereira, Carmelite. . Rev. Fr. Deep Fernandes, Carmelite preached a fitting homily on one of the last words of Jesus from the Cross - “Father forgive them they do not what they are doing.” This spiritual program was ended with the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and benediction.

Medical mission inaugurated at Infant Jesus shrine
Fr Joe Tauro , the superior of St Joseph's monestry inaugurated the Infant Jesus Medical Mission, a health information center at Infant Jesus Shrine on Thursday, February 19. Dr Naveen Rodrigues gave information about the center. Mark D' Souza gave information about alcohol addiction. Fr Elias D' Souza, director of the shrine, Fr Barnabas Monis and Fr Steven Pereira were present. Deacon Joseph C D' Souza compered and proposed vote of thanks. The service will be available on every Thursday from 10 am till 12.30 pm.

January 26, Dhyanavana International Institute of Spirituality, Mysore organized a full day seminar on Consecrated life in the third millennium: hopes and challenges. January 21 to 23, 2015, a mission exposure programme was organized for Dhyanavana student sisters at Mariapura village in Kollegal district. It was guided by ODP NGO’S Staff members and it was headed by Sr. Felicie U F S. They initiated this exposure programme through P.R.A. method that is Participatory Rural Appraisal. This method helps to trace the needs of the villagers.

INSTALLATION OF THE TABERNACLE AT THE PAROCHIAL HOUSE,  MPANDAGINDO, SONGEA.
“It is written,” he said to them, “My house will be called a house of prayer, but you are making it a den of robbers.” (Matthew 21:13). There was a real need for a community chapel for the friars to have their community prayers especially to have the mental prayer at the Parochial House of the St. Martin the Tour. After having received the permission from the local ordinary, the Tabernacle was installed in the Community Chapel by Rev. Fr. Marlon Rodrigues OCD, the Regional Vicar during the evening vespers on the day of Christmas.

The family which prays together will live together, was the theme on the Feast of the Holy Family. The feast was celebrated with pomp and glory on 28th December at Ndilima Litembo, one of the Substation which is under the care of the Carmelites. The main celebrant of the feast was Rev. Fr. Marlon Rodrigues, the Regional Vicar. The celebration began with the Holy Eucharist at 11 AM. There were a good number of faithful present for the celebration.

On Boxing Day the parishioners of St. Martin the Tour Parish, Mpandagindo, solemnized the feast of St. Stephen, the first Martyr, by having the baptism for 25 children. Pietro Maria Fragnelli, Bishop of Trapani. Fr Wilfred Pais welcomed the Bishop and thanked for his friendly visit to our community which enhanced the joy of the community. After having seen the relic of St Teresa of Avila and the Church, He presided over the Eucharistic celebration and during the homily taking into consideration the rich legacy and the spirituality of the Carmelite Saints invited all to walk in the footsteps of St Teresa of Avila in following Jesus Christ.

The walking staff of the first woman ‘Doctor’ of the Catholic Church arrived Tanzania on the 14th Jan 2015 accompanied by the team of pilgrims from Spain namely Amaya Alvarez, Pablo Montesinos, Cristina Marcos and Fr. Jerome Paluku, Asst mission secretary from Generalate. The entire Catholic Church joining with the Reformed Order of the Carmelites of St. Teresa of Avila marks the 500th Birthday of St. Teresa who is noted for her life of prayer, prayer for the church and efforts to reform the Carmelite Order.

RELIC ARRIVES IN DAR ES SALAAM - ST. TERESA OF AVILA SUB STATION
16th January, 2015 the relic was taken by flight from Mwanza to Dar Es Salaam. The plane landed at 2.15pm and the relic was received at the airport by Discalced Carmelite friars and the OCDS members. The three cars decorated proceeded to St. Peter Claver parish where the relic was received solemnly with singing and celebration. There was exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. At 5 pm there was the solemn Eucharistic celebration presided over by Rev. Fr. Benno the Dean and parish priest of Kibaha parish and concelebrated by the Carmelite priests and Diocesan priests.

At 9 am the relic was taken to St. Therese of the Child Jesus Parish where the people along with children and sang and offered flowers expressing their joy. The relic was taken in procession to the church. The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Fr. Marlon Rodrigues OCD. The veneration of the relic was held after the mass.

RELIC ARRIVES IN KIHONDA OUR LADY OF MT. CARMEL CHURCH
At 9.20 pm the relic was received at Kihonda Mt. Carmel church, where religious and lay people gathered and had the night vigil with exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. On 18thmorning Sunday the two masses were presided over by Rev. Fr. Mloka, the Rector of St. Peter’s seminary Diocese of Morogoro. In the afternoon at 1.30 pm the relic and the pilgrims travelled to Dar es salaam to fly to Madagascar via Kenya at 7.10 pm.

Rector’s day @ Avila Jyothi Seminary, Mapusa
18th Jan 2015 was a special day for Avila Jyothi Seminary, Mapusa as it was celebrated as the Rector’s day. The Brothers put up a mind blowing cultural programme. The celebration began at 12.00 PM with a prayer song followed by variety of dances, jokes, plays and songs. The programme came to an end with the singing of Anthem. Priests and religious from neighboring parishes and communities and benefactors were invited along with the teachers who teach our brothers throughout the year. After the cultural bonanza the fraternal meal was shared. In the evening volleyball match was held. It was indeed a memorable day. A hearty congratulations to the future Carmelites who made this day a great day.

All the B’day Babies cut the cake together and after this all the friars shared the fraternal meal brought from different communities.

Infant Jesus Feast @ Carmel Hill, Mangalore
The annual feast of Infant Jesus Shrine, Carmel Hill, Bikarnakatte here was held with great pomp and religious fervour on Wednesday January 14. Thousands of devotees took part in the celebrations. A solemn mass was celebrated by Dr Ignatius D'Souza, the Bishop of Bareilly. In his homily the bishop of Bareilly said, "The motto of the feast is healthy family. God is the one who protects us, God lives as family, Father, son and holy spirit. Today the young children are finding dificult to respect their parents, it is easy to drop them in orphanage and visit once a while. Family's are broken, divorces have increased, greed has increased, there is no spirit of sacrifice in life.

Fr. Shabas Crasta strikes gold!
Fr. Shabas Crasta celebrated his golden jubilee of birth on 30th December, 2014. The celebration began with Eucharistic celebration presided by the Golden Baby on the same day where we also had the privilege of having Rev. Fr. Aristondo the Provincial of Navara Province, Spain. The official celebration was held on the 4th January 2015 Sunday noon. The neighboring Religious communities together with the OCDS and the leaders of the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel,Quasi Parish were present. Fr. Marlon Rodrigues the Regional Vicar in his speech he thanked Fr. Shabas for his selfless service and obedience from the time he landed Tanzania. Infant Jesus Feast and Asha Deepa Day at Asha Deepa, Madanthyar
The annual feast of Infant Jesus was celebrated with all joy and jubilation at Asha Deepa, Madanthyar on the 4th of January at 5 o’clock. The concelebrated high mass was presided over by V. Rev. Fr. Charles Serrao, OCD, the provincial of Karnataka Goa province. Friars from various communities and neighboring parishes were present to partake in our joy. The grand celebration of the Eucharist was followed by 'Asha Deepa Day' where brothers entertained the people gathered with their talents of Music, Dance and Acting. “Sallyo” a play written by Deac. Joseph Cyril D’Souza OCD and directed by Fr. Prakash D'Cunha OCD was enacted by brothers, which was well appreciated by the people.

Infant Jesus Novena at Infant Jesus Shrine, Pushpashrama
The Triduum celebration in preparation for the Feast of Infant Jesus was inaugurated with the hoisting of the Infant Jesus flag by Rev. Fr. Valentine Kumar. The Masses were held in the evening in Tamil, Kannada and English At 5 pm, 6pm, and 7pm respectively. All three masses were well attended by the people. The preachers preached on the theme of 'Experiencing the Heavenly Joy in the the family relationship' and catechised the people on the importance of the family life.

With this dictum “Called to Drink by the Brook Cherith” the 13 Novices having finished their Novitiate fruitfully committed themselves to the Lord in Carmel as they boldly pronounced their Vows on 14th December, 2015, at Tapovana, Kushalnagar. Rev. Fr. Charles Serrao, our dear Provincial, who presided over the solemn Eucharist not only complimented the brothers and the parents, but also invited them to be committed Carmelites in the footsteps of St John of the Cross. This year the day being Sunday added special colour to the Profession Day.

LAST HOUR TO FIRST HOUR IN EMPOLI
December 31, 2014 a day of thanking the Lord for the marvelous year and to inaugurate the New Year 2015 with full enthusiasm and eagerness. To mark this event at Santa Maria Church, Empoli, Italy an adoration to the Blessed Sacrament was conducted by Fr Manoj Braganza, Assistant parish priest. During this hour all the faithful on their knees adored the Eucharistic Lord and expressed their gratitude for the year 2014. After which at 6-00pm, thanksgiving Holy Eucharist was presided over by Fr Donath, the parish priest. Fr Roshan Lobo preached a homily explaining the presence of Jesus a midst us and the role of Mary, the Mother of God in the church and in the life of humanity.

CARMELITE JINGLING AT EMPOLI
December 27, 2014 on the feast day of St John the Evangelist, the Carmelites of K.G Province studying and serving in Italy congregated together at Avane, Empoli to celebrate the Christmas Joy and the fraternity. The get together commenced with the Eucharistic celebration presided over by Fr Vinod Lobo at St Jacob’s Church, Avane. Fr Roshan Lobo preached a touching homily explaining the role of beloved disciple John and invited all to become the beacon of love in our day today life. Frs Rudolph and Manoj through their melodious singing raised our minds and hearts to God.

‘STAR WARS’ AT INFANT JESUS SHRINE, MANGALORE
Stars, bigger stars, stars of all sorts made by human hands in imitation of the heavenly stars, stars everywhere minus the film stars, brought in by the little walking stars. The Christmas Eve was invading and 41 stars from all over the Mangalore and outside were fighting a winning battle at the grotto of Infant Jesus.No doubt his Infant Presence in Bethlehem was alerted by a star with a blazon tail, so says the Scripture detail.

Pushpashrama organized an inter-religious program ‘Sadbhavana day' at 4.00 pm, on the 25th of December in the auditorium. The programme began with the lighting of the traditional lamp by the Chief Guests, Swami Shanthi Vratananda, Ramakrishna Ashrama, Yadavagiri, Mysore, Mouli Mohammad Saaduddin (Munawar E Masjid) and Rev. Fr. Alfred Menezes OCD, Rector, Pushpashrama. The Chief guests enlightened the people of Naidunagar with thought provoking and inspiring speeches.

Christmas Celebration in Pushpahsrama
The Christmas vigil was celebrated with all solemnity in Pushpashrama on 24th of December at 11 pm beginning with the carol singing followed by the solemn Eucharistic celebration at 11:30 pm. Rev. Fr. Alfred Menezes presided over the vigil mass and Fr. Oswald Crasta preached a meaningful and heart touching homily. Frs. Paul, John and Joseph concelebrated the mass and brothers facilitated the faithful to celebrate the Eucharist with their angelic choir. After the Eucharist ‘Housie Housie’ game was conducted by Br. Ajay and the sweets were distributed to all followed by the Santa’s Christmas dance.

Carmel Welfare Centre, Pushpashrama and Carmel Play home had jointly organised an anticipated Christmas celebration on the 23rd of December. Rev. Fr. Alfred Menezes and Fr. Sr. Mary Naomi OCD, from all directions, gathered to celebrate her 50 years in consecrated life. The main celebrant Rev. Fr. Charles Serrao OCD, Provincial Superior of the Discalced Carmelites of the Karnataka-Goa Province, to which this Cloistered Carmel belongs, was the main celebrant.

CARMEL CHOIR COMPETITION 2014
The Kihonda Carmelite Fathers hosted a Choir Competition as a sign of evangelization for the Morogoro vicinity on the 13th December, 2014. The competition began with the invoking of God’s blessings by Rev. Fr. Marlon Rodrigues, the Regional Vicar of the Carmelites, Tanzania. Rev. Fr. Shabas Crasta, the Superior of the Carmelite Community of Kihonda, welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest Rev. Fr. Leander Jaka, the parish priest of Chalinze and the Director of the Education board of the Morogoro Diocese.

Carmel day celebrated @ Carmel Hill, Mangalore
Come December, and the shrine campus has multiple events and happenings of all sorts, and one among them is the Carmel Day, loved by its devoted audience who want to be there, rain or sun. Carmel Day is a performance event staged by the community of Carmelites at the Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte just to remind all that there is a solid community of 25 young men giving fishing touches to their 14 year long seminary formation to be Carmelite priest.

On December 15, 2014 the Scala community had a unique privilege of visiting the historical “Museo Ebraico di Roma” (Jewish Museum of Rome). This particular Museum is a unique place to discover the traditions, religion and the history of the Jewish people. The community members were fortunate to see two beautiful synagogues: The Great Synagogue and the Spanish Synagogue. The exclusive opportunity was possible due to the acquaintance of Fr Ivan Pinto with His Excellency Dr Zion Evrony, the ambassador of Israel to the Vatican.

Inauguration at Baroda, Gujrat
23rd November 2014 is a historical day to be remembered by the Carmelite Order and the People of Baroda. First Mission house which is dedicated to St. Therese of Child Jesus was blessed by Most Rev. Godfrey de Rozario, Bishop of Baroda and Inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Charles Serrao OCD, Provincial Superior of Karnataka-Goa Province . More than 700 people witnessed this event, and received the blessings from the hands of more than 20 Priests from the altar. Rev. Fr. Jerome Moras OCD, gifted his Miraculous statue of the Infant Jesus to the Church on this auspicious day. All partook in the fellowship meal before they left for their homes sweet homes.

Province Retreat at Sadbhavana
Two retreats were held in Sadbhavana from the 17th to 21st of November and 24th of to 28th of November back to back. Rev. Fr. Peter Chakiyat, the well known Scholar in Indian Philosophy and Teresian Spirituality from Malabar province was the preacher. The preacher with his vast knowledge on St. Teresa of Avila and his personal experience of Carmelite way of life prepared all the priests participated in the retreat for the V centenary of St. Teresa’s Birth in the best manner possible. All those who participated were extremely happy with the preacher and the retreat as all were enabled to imbibe the spirit of Carmel as desired and taught by St. Teresa of Avila.

Confirmation at Kempton Park, South Africa
It was a great day for the parishioners of our Lady of Loreto, Kempton Park as 21 children received the sacrament of confirmation on the 21st of November, 2014. The sacrament was conferred by the Very Rev. Fr. Duncan Stoke, the Vicar General of the archdiocese of Johannesburg. He preached a very meaningful homily on the role of the youth and the significance of the sacrament of confirmation. Mass was concelebrated by Rev. Fr. Boniface D’Souza OCD, Rev. Fr. First Holy Communion Celebration at St. Joseph's Actonville, South Africa
First Holy Communion was celebrated in the parish of St. Joseph's Actonville, South Africa. Eight Children received the the Lord for the first time into their life. Beautiful liturgy was conducted by the children. At the end of the Mass the Catechism teachers were thanked and honoured with gifts. Since darkness invaded the land, which happened after many years, whole celebration went on in darkness. Children rejoiced with the internal light of Jesus with the external darkness.

November 16: Carmelite family of Mysore organized a seminar on “Collegio De Christo” in Pushpashrama premises under the able leadership of Rev. Fr. Dominic Vas. The resource persons of the seminar were Rev. Fr. Alfred Menezes and Jevan Tauro. Seminar began at 9:30 with registration and refreshments. At 10:00 AM the seminar began with invoking blessings on seminar and on each one, followed by warm words of welcome by Rev. Fr. Dominic. Then Rev. Fr. Alfred dealt on the theme “Colegio De Christo”. Colegio de Christo means school of Christ.

November 9th was a great day for the Discalced Carmelite Fathers working in the Parish of St. Martin the Tour at Mpandagindo, in the Archdiocese of Songea as Mass Marriages were held on the Occasion of the Patron’s Feast.  This Dual Celebration began with the concelebrated Holy Eucharist. Rev. Fr. Renatus Payovela OCD, the first local Discalced Carmelite Priest from Tanzania was the main celebrant. The Celebration began at 10 PM. There were 5 couples who got married on this auspicious day.

In the vicinity of Archdiocese of Songea there are many Secondary Schools and this year we Carmelites had a special privilege to have a special Holy Mass in different schools and Hostels to Bless the Students of FORM 4 (SSC/SSLC/10THSTD) prior to their Board Exams. November 15, 2014: On this special day, the Carmelites of Scala, Rome along with the entire community members commemorated and prayed for our Carmelite departed members giving thanks for all that they have done and praying that they may enjoy eternal bliss in the kingdom of God. To mark this distinctive event a prayer service was conducted after the Holy Eucharistic celebration. Fr Ivan Clifford Pinto, the Superior of the community led the prayer service at the ancient Carmelite cemetery of the Roman Province. May all our dear Carmelites brothers and sisters obtain the mercy of God through the intercession of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and a sure sign of hope, consolation and admission to the courts of heaven!

NOTTE MISSIONARIA AT SCALA, ROME
November 15, 2014 - A group of youths who are members of “Gioventù e Famiglia Missionaria – una nuova evangelizzazione” (Youths and Missionary Family : the new evangelization) who are the lay members of the Legionario di Cristo – a religious order founded in Massico held a vigil at Santa Maria Della Scala, Rome from 8-30 pm to 12-00am. The vigil commenced with a Holy Mass where the missionaries received a "mandate" after which they began a long adoration which included Eucharistic adoration with divine praises, prayers and moments of silence.

Leadership Camp for the young adults of Khanapur Zone, Belgaum Diocese organized at Mount Carmel CBSE School, Ramnagar
Belgaum Diocese: Khanapur CRI Zone organized an overnight stay Leadership Camp at Mount Carmel CBSE School, Ramnagar on 1st and 2nd of November 2014. 234 Children from VII std to II PUC gathered from 12 parishes and their substations. There were 12 religious priests and 24 religious sisters present for the inauguration. Whole programme was conducted by Fr. Richard Menezes OCD and Fr. Rayan Pais OCD. Though it was called as a Leadership Camp, the purpose behind it was to promote vocations.

VISIT FROM THE CITY OF ALBA DE TORMES
November 11, 2014: The Discalced Carmelites of the Karnataka-Goa Province at Santa Maria Della Scala in Rome had the unique privilege of extending a cordial welcome to Dr Concepciòn Miguèlez Simòn, the Mayor of the city of Alba de Tormes, Salamanca (where the body of St. Teresa of Avila is laid to rest). She was accompanied by her secretary Mrs. Blanca Sanchez Boyero and the Councilor for culture Dr Pilar Brinon Dominguez .They spent their precious few moments in prayer at the chapel where the right foot of St. Teresa is preserved and venerated.

Fr. Provincial's Visit to Vancouver , Canada
On 24th October 2014 Rev. Fr. Provincial arrived in Vancouver and began his visitation at St. Edmund’s Church Community. 27th evening a grand celebration was organised at St. Edmund’s Church to solemnly begin the meeting of all the Carmelites. The Secular Carmelites with the parish team arranged the liturgy and Fr. Charles being the main celebrant, Fr. Rudolf preached the homily. Fr. Jerald D’souza the Superior of the community introduced each priest of Canada Region and offered a token of love to each member. At the end of the mass all sang Salve Regina and the days program ended with a sumptuous meal served by St. Edmund’s community.

The Secular Carmelites were pleased to make a presence at the opening Mass of the Regional Meeting of the Discalced Carmelites of the Kanataka-Goa Province in Canada which was held on October 27-28, 2014 at St. Edmund’s Parish, North Vancouver, B.C. Mass on the evening of October 27th was officiated by Very Rev. Fr. Provincial Charles Serrao and concelebrated by sixteen Carmelite friars of Canada. The Secular Carmelite Choir sung at Mass accompanied by the parish organist.

53 children received the Lord into their lives in the form of the Holy Communion for the first time on the 26th of October. Rev. Fr. Peter Rebello celebrated the Holy Eucharist and preached a very inspiring homily explaining the children how important is the Holy Eucharist in Christian life. SECULAR CARMELITES CEREMONIES 2014
LOWER MAINLAND, VANCOUVER
Another two memorable days for the Secular Carmelites of the Lower Mainland Vancouver area occurred on October 18 and October 25, 2014.  On October 18th before the celebration of the Mass, with Fr. Jerry D’Souza officiating, we witnessed the investiture of three aspirants.  On Saturday, October 25th, the weather forecast predicted a cold, rainy Saturday, but this did not dampen the spirits of the Secular Carmelites as they walked into a warm and brightly lit St. Edmund’s Church for Mass and Profession ceremonies officiated by Father Provincial Charles Serrao and Provincial Delegate to the OCDS, Fr. Jerald D’Souza. Five candidates made their First Promises and two candidates made their Definitive Promises.

Welcome to Fr, Charles in St. Mary's church Canada.
On Tuesday, October 14, 2014, St-Mary’s Parish welcomed Father Charles Serrao OCD, Carmelite Provincial Superior from India who is visiting Canadian Carmelite parishes. The Parish was well represented with St-Mary’s Elementary School principal, Ms Charmaine Hanley, all the teachers, about135 students and approximately 35 parishioners in attendance. Fr. Ronnie our pastor began by introducing and welcoming Father Charles to the Parish and he said Fr, Charles is a provincial superior to the Carmelite fathers. He has a deep experience of Carmelite way of life, the long time he was in Rome, and two terms he served as an assistant to the General superior. Even he has concelebrated the Eucharist six times with saint pope john Paul 2nd. In the month of April he was appointed as a provincial superior.

Six Lay people solemnly commit to be Carmelites
It was a historic day not only for Carmel Hill but for the entire Province as 6 of the Secular Carmel members made their Solemn Promises in the hands of V. Rev. Fr. George Santhumayor, OCD, Vicar Provincial on Thursday, 16th October 2014 at Infant Jesus Shrine during the Thursday Mass. During the solemn celebration the members recited their promises in the presence of the Vicar Provincial, vowing to live the Teresian spirituality in evangelical perfection in the spirit of the evangelical counsels of chastity, poverty and obedience and through the beatitudes. Fr. George presented a cross as a taken of acceptance and appreciation. Later a fraternal meal was shared in the refectory after each member was congratulated by offering a flower bouquet. Fathers from the Mangalore region as well as OCDS members joined for the celebration.

ARCHBISHOP OF GOA VISITS SANTA MARIA DELLA SCALA, ROME
October 19, 2014 Sunday: Most Rev Filipe Neri Ferrao, Archbishop-Patriarch of Goa along with his secretary Fr Joaquim Loiola Pereira and other two priest students who are pursuing their higher studies in Rome paid a fraternal visit to our community at Scala, Rome. Rev Fr Ivan Pinto, Rector of the community welcomed the Archbishop. After which the entire community friars greeted the Archbishop. Later he visited our Church and the historic pharmacy which became the official Pope’s pharmacy and became known all over the world.

GUARDIAN ANGELS PARISH FEAST CELEBRATED ON 5TH OCTOBER 2014
65th year Guardian Angels Parish Feast was celebrated on October 4th at the Millennium Hall. It was a grand celebration with presence of Fr. Rajesh Madtha and Fr. Godwin Pinto. The parishioners organised a program and dinner was served. Frs. Rajesh and Godwin prepared two delicious dishes: Mangalorean Pork and Mysore Chicken Curry. Parishioners spontaneously shared some of their unique talents by way of singing, dancing and cracking some rare jokes that made the atmosphere enjoyable and great.

Solemnity of St Teresa of Jesus & Silver Jubilee of Fr Wilfred Pais at Santa Maria Della Scala, Rome
October 15, 2014 is a greatest day for the Carmelites all over the world as they celebrate the solemnity of St Teresa of Avila (Jesus), the reformer of the Carmelite Order. The Carmelites of Scala community had a reason to rejoice and celebrate on this festal day for two reasons. First of all, the community celebrated the solemnity of St Teresa of Jesus by inaugurating the fifth birth centenary of our Holy Mother. Secondly the community members glorified the Almighty God for the Silver Jubilee of the Religious Profession of Fr Wilfred Pais.

Study Tour to Golden Temple at Kushalnagar : Dhyanavana, Mysore
The Nine Month Course sisters of Dhyanavana had a study tour on Sunday 12, October, 2014. The day started at 6 am with a prayer in the chapel. We boarded the hired bus for the tour, and proceeded to Dornahalli, Mysore, Shrine of St. Anthony of Padua. We offered mass in the shrine and visited the place where the Statue of St. Anthony was found. Fr. Gilbert D’Silva, Rector of the shrine explained to us the history of the shrine. Around 150 years ago when a Hindu man ploughing the field he got a statue of St. Anthony.

Centenary Celebration of St Mary’s Hagersville and St Ann’s Alpole, Canada.
On Sunday morning, October 5th, 2014, members of the parish of St Mary’s Hagersville and St Ann’s Walpole, along with their guests gathered to celebrate 100 years of the Roman Catholic faith community in Hagersville. In the weeks preceding this celebration, parishioner Dave Lane had published in the Haldimand Press a series of interesting and informative articles, accompanied by pictures, outlining the history of the church in Hagersville, which served to prepare the congregation for the milestone event. The church was beautifully prepared and decorated for the occasion by church secretary Mary Lane, custodian Luann Watson, school librarian Marie Peart and the children of St Mary’s School.

Province Day at Sadbhavana
The feast of the Patroness of our Province (Province Day) was celebrated in Sadbhavana at 6:30 on the 7th of October with all Solemnity. Rev. Fr. Xavier E. Manavath, the Episcopla Vicar for the Religious in Bangalore Diocese presided over the Eucharist. Rev. Fr. Provincial, the Councilors and all the superiors of our Province along with the priests of our neighboring communities concelebrated the festive Eucharist. Sisters, Friends, Benefactors and well wishers joined in our celebration.

New Community at Shimoga
Fr. Jerome Moras and Fr. Ivan D’Souza have done it. They succeeded in getting a rented house to venture into a new project at Shimoga. It was a joyous day indeed when Rev. Fr. Provincial along with Fr. George Santhumayor, Fr. Silvester D’Souza and Fr. Richard Menezes visited the house on the 29th of September to encourage our friars in the pioneering work. In the evening V. Rev. Fancis Serrao, Bishop of Shimoga Blessed the house and wished all the very best to the Fathers to work in his Diocese.

Celebration at St. Michael’s Church, Belur
The feast of St. Michael was celebrated on 3rd of October in our parish at Belur. Rev. Fr. Charles Serrao presided over the Solemn Eucharist and Rev. Fr. Rajesh D’Souza broke the Word of God. Priests from our communities and the neighboring parishes joined in the festive mass. Since it was also the day of Ayudha Puja, Vehicles were blessed before the recessional hymn. After the Holy Mass all partook in the festive meal prepared by the parishioners.

A New Property in Canada
Helen, a great benefactor of Fr. Rudolf V. D'Souza has added another 20 acres of land to Carmel Hill Property at North Deroche Road – Fraser Valley. The property is adjacent to our property where we are to build our monastery. This new property has trees, two barns and a 3 bedroom house. Now the total acres in our name is 126 and another 20 acres are with the company of Helen which eventually will come to us.

REACHING OUT TO CANADA
The Archbishop of Vancouver has requested the services of one of our friars for 4 months. Accordingly we have sent Fr. Vijay Martin who has served IN Canada and also had a valid visa to travel immediately. Fr. Vijay Martin has been appointed administrator of St. Antony of Padua Church at Agassiz (near Harrison Hot Springs). The Church campus is 6 kilometres from our 86 acres of property and 27 kilometres from Carmel Hill. Here are the photos of the Church, Residence, and the campus of the new parish under our care.

FEAST OF THE PATRONESS OF THE MISSIONARIES IN THE ETERNAL CITY
October 1, 2014: The Carmelites of Scala Communitytogether with the priest students in Rome solemnized the feast of St Therese of Child Jesus, patroness of the Missionaries. The entire community assembled around the table of the Lord at 6-30pm to solemnize this feast through the celebration of the Eucharist. Rev Fr Edwin presided over the celebration and preached a meaningful homily. After the mass the roses were blessed and distributed to all the people along with a souvenir.

Stress Management workshop at Emmaus Counseliing Centre
On 21st of September 2014, Stress Management workshop was conducted at Emmaus Counseliing Centre. Fr. Alex Braganza, the Superior welcomed the participants. Workshop consisted of 3 parts. General awareness, Stressors and Self help. Stress occurs when people perceive that pressure is higher than the resources at hand. S = P > R. Some of the important stressors discussed were, physical environment, social interactions, rudeness, bossiness from the authorities at work place, breakdown of machines, life style, daily hassles like misunderstanding, arguments, misplaced things, excessive work load, lack of sleep, lack of time for rest and relaxation, major life events like death of a loved one, lost job, marriage of son or daughter.

Report of the Carmelite Parish Priests’ Meeting

The Parish Priests from our Province, participated in a meeting that was held at Sadbhavana, Carmelite Provincialate on September 16th and 17th 2014. The inauguration was held in the presence of Fr. Charles Serrao, Provincial Superior, Fr. Jerome Moras, Prov. Councilor in-charge of Apostolate and Fr. Silvestre D’Souza, Prov. Councilor, by the lighting of a lamp. Fr. Melwin D’Cunha led the gathering in prayer. Later Fr. Jerome Moras Councilor in-charge of Apostolate welcomed the gathering and introduced the resource person Rev. Fr. Jervis D’Souza, Judicial Vicar of the Archdiocese of Bombay.

Monthi Fest at Sadbhavana
The B’day of our Mother ‘Monthi Fest’ was celebrated in Sadbhavana on 7th of September with all solemnity. The offering of the flowers and Blessing of the Corn was done at the main entrance. With the melodius chorus of traditional hymn ‘Moriyek Hogalsiya’ all children gathered offered the flowers to Baby Mary joyfully. Rev. Fr. Charles Serrao, the Provincial presided over the Eucharist and preached a wonderful homily on the life of Mary highlighting her qualities we need to imitate.

MEETING OF THE SPIRITUAL ASSISTANTS OF SECULAR CARMEL – 2014 (Sadbhavana, Bangalore: 2-3 September, 2014)
Carmelite Seculars, together with the Friars and Nuns, are sons and daughters of the Order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St Teresa of Jesus. It is the earnest endeavour of the Karnataka-Goa Province to promote vocations to the Secular Carmel from all walks of life. Around 10 years ago we began forming the first communities and today we have a good number of members who have made their promises.

Report of the Meeting of the Not-So-Young Priests at Xellim

The Fifth Not-So-Young Priests’ meetbegan on August 19th morning at Xellim - Goa. 19 Fathers were present for the meeting. Fr. Joy the convener of the programme welcomed everyone. It was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by Rev. Fr. Charles Serrao, the Provincial and 5 representatives from each batch. Thereafter Fr.Provincial presided over the Eucharistic celebration which was concelebrated by Fr. Peter D'Sa and Fr.Sunil Monis. During the homily Fr. Provincial invited everyone to reflect on the Carmelite life and the importance of the three Evangelical Counsels.

ANNUAL OCDS RETREAT :  “COLLEGIO DE CRISTO”
More than 40 Secular Carmelites of the Lower Mainland Communities, British Columbia, came together on August 8 to 10, 2014 for the Annual Retreat at Westminster Abbey in Mission, B.C. The theme was “Collegio de Cristo” (College of Christ), led by Rev. Fr. Jerald D’Souza, Provincial Delegate for OCDS of Western Canada.  The theme, one that examined community life and prayer life, was also this year’s theme of the XII Provincial Chapter of our Karnataka-Goa Province in India.

ANNUAL MEETING OF WESTERN CANADA OCDS

The 5th Annual Meeting of Western Canada took place over the weekend of August 22 to 24, 2014 at the Seton House of Prayer, Kelowna, BC. Rev. Fr, Jerald D’Souza OCD, Provincial Delegate, met with Officers of the Secretariat, Community Presidents and Directors of Formation. The weekend commenced on Friday with Evening Prayer and Mass in the Chapel on the hill overlooking the 160-acre retreat centre. After dinner, the meeting convened during which the reports and business matters were dealt with leaving the following day free for a formation workshop and open forum on challenges and resolutions.

Dhyanavana Institution Day
Dhyanavana institution day was held on 15th August and saluted the patroness St. Edith Stein who led a heroic life for her faith. We began the day with prayer Service and later saluted our nation by hoisting the flag by Sr. Nathaline CCR. At 11:30 a.m we had Eucharistic celebration officiated by Rev. Fr. Charles Serrao Provincial of Karnataka Goa Province. Fr. Sylvestre D Souza preached thought-provoking homily and gave a clarion call to live and witness dynamic faith of St. Edith Stein.  At 6:00 p.m we had prayer service conducted by Fr. Oswald Crasta OCD on Edith Stein, followed by enthralling cultural programme by student participants.

Independence Day @ at Infant Jesus Shrine, Mangalore
68th Independence Day was celebrated at Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte – Mangalore on Friday morning. Mr. Roy Castelino, President of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy hoisted the flag and thereafter addressing the gathering he highlighted the fact that India is an emerging power in the world. In IT sector or in the medical field, India has shown its caliber and within five years India will have an enormous youth power (youth below 45 years).

Anticipated B’day of Rev. Fr. Provincial and Releasing of the Festschrift in honor of Fr. Paul
It was a great day as Sadbhavana Community along with all the formators and Superiors of the formative communities celebrated Rev. Fr. Provincial’s anticipated B’day. The Celebration began with a Holy Mass at 6:30 PM. Fr. Provincial Presided over the Eucharist and Rev. Fr. Oswald Crasta preached an inspiring homily. After the mass all gathered in the refectory for the double celebration. Rev. Fr. George Santhumayor spread the carpet of red roses to one and all. Fr. Ronald D’Souza compered the programme with his witty comments and sweet jokes.

Anti child labor day : Carmel Jyothi public charitable trust
Carmel Jyothi Public charitable trust is known for its social development activities. Now it is two year that the trust has started “child laborers’ residential school” in the campus of Carmel Seva Sadan. At present there are 45 children. These children are from different villages surrounding Hadagalli taluk. All of them are either school dropouts or child labourers who did not see the face of a school. All of them are given shelter, food, clothing, education and above all the love of Christ.

Carmel Jyothi public charitable trust conducts women empowerment course for women
Huvina hadagali, 14th July, 2014, Carmel Jyothi public charitable trust and JCI Huvina Hadagalli royal conducted women empowerment course for women. Women empowerment course was organised in the campus of Carmel Seva Sadan.This program was organised to empower the anganwadi workers of Hadagalli taluk. Dual Celebration in Tanzania
28th of July, 2014 will go down in the history of the Discalced Carmelites in Tanzania because of the dual celebrations namely inauguration and consecration of the newly built chapel at Kihonda and the priestly ordination of three of our deacons, namely, Dn. Edwin, Dn. Theophil and Dn Elius. The celebration began at 9:00am with the solemn procession. There were around 60 priests both religious and secular. More than 1500 people gathered to witness the historical celebration. Liturgy began with the blessing of the surroundings of the church by the bishop and cutting of the ribbon by Fr. Charles Serrao the provincial of Karnataka – Goa province.  Click here for more

Carmel Jyothi public charitable trust conducts world population day
11th July 2014, Huvinahadagali, Carmel Jyothi public charitable trust and the taluk hospital under the joint collaboration conducted the world population day. Awareness program was conducted on the streets of Hadagalli town by the students of G. P. G. College students. Afterwards stage program was conducted in the campus of Carmel Seva Sadan. Mr. P. Badyanaik THO of Hadagalli taluk was the president of the program. Fr. Rajesh D’Souza, Mr. H. N. Thimmappa CO of taluk panchyath, Mr. S. Basavangowda, principal of GPG College, were the chief guests of the program.

Handling Emotions-Workshop
First workshop of this year was conducted at Emmaus on 27th July 2014. The theme of the workshop was “Handling Emotions”. There were 15 participants. Fr. Alex Braganza the superior welcomed the participants. Dr. Fr. Praveen D’souza was the resource person. Thinking is the foundation of our emotions and behaviour. As we think so we feel as feel so we behave. To feel better we ought to change our thinking. Tips were given as to how to alter the cognitive distortions into more positive and helpful thinking patterns. The workshop was well appreciated by the participants. They unanimously requested to conduct more short term programmes on weekends so that they all can participate. Click here for more

FEAST OF OUR LADY OF MT. CARMEL AT ST. EDMUND’S, NORTH VANCOUVER BC CANADA
The Feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel was preceded by a nine-day novena to our Heavenly Mother at St. Edmund’s Church, North Vancouver. The novena was notably well received and attended by parishioners of St. Edmund’s, Secular Carmelites and devotees as evidenced by the increased numbers this year. On July 16, 2014 7:00 p.m., a solemn Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Bishop Stephen Jensen of Prince George and concelebrated by our Carmelite friars, Regional Superior Fr. Rudolf D’Souza, Fr. Jerald D’Souza, Fr. Godwin Pinto, Fr. Stany Mascarenhas, and several priests including Monsignor Pedro Lopez-Gallo. The church was filled to capacity with standing room only. We cannot progress if we do not educate our children.
In order to encourage the poor children and to create in them the interest to study, “Carmel Jyothi Public Charitable Trust" distributed free note books. Around 75 children belonging to different religion were given free note books, pen, pencils and the color pencils. This included the children from kayaka nagara Govt School, children from Carmel boys home, children from child labor residential school and the poor children from Hadagali. Fr. Rajesh D’Souza, the director of Carmel Jyothi Public Charitable Trust distributed the books and asked the children to study well. Rev. Fr. Sadbhavana Celebrates the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel
The Community of Sadbhanavana along with the Carmel Kutam of Bangalore celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel on 20th of July, Sunday in Sadhbhavana with all jubilation and solemnity. Rev. Fr. George Santhumayor presided over the Eucharistic celebration and preached a heart touching homily highlighting the role of Mother Mary in protecting and guiding the Christians in the footsteps of Christ. Good number of Carmelite priests from near and far participated in the celebration. 500 people from different parts of Bangalore joined in the celebration and honored and thanked Mother Mary for her maternal protection.  Click here for more

A Get-together of the Carmelite Family of Mysore
July 20th was a great day for all the members of Carmelite family of Mysore as they celebrated the feast of our lady of Mount Carmel. This great event was organised under the able leadership Fr. Dominic Vas. CCR sisters were the hosts of the celebration. Fr. Dominic presided over the Eucharistic celebration. In his homily he highlighted Mother Teresa’s devotion towards Mother Mary. Liturgy was organised by AC sisters, choir by Carmelite brothers from Pushpashrama, offertory gifts were brought by Ocds brothers and sisters.  Click here for more

World environment day
Huvina Hadagalli, 5th June 2014, Carmel Jyothi public charitable trust (R) and Mount Carmel school Huvina Hadagalli under the joint collaboration conducted the world environment day. Fr. Rajesh D’Souza the director of Carmel Jyothi public charitable trust (R) was the president of the program. Fr. Prakash tauro head master of Mount Carmel school was the chief guest. Children from the child labour school and the children from Mount Carmel school were present. During the program all the children were asked to develop an ardent love for the nature. To mark this event children cleansed the streets of Hadagalli and many people participated in this. Click here for more

Fr. Provincial's Visit to South Africa
The parish of St. Joseph's, Actonville, South Africa, rejoiced at the visit of our Provincial Rev. Fr.Charels Serrao on 13th July. Mass was celebrated by Provincial. He was welcomed by the parishioners with flowers at the beginning of the Mass and was honored with gifts at the end of the Mass. Provincial thanked the parishioners for all the support they give to the priests and for our misssion.
